Wally Pfister's Sci-Fi 'Transcendence' Set for Late April 2014 Release

Wally Pfister / Chris Nolan

Briefly: It looks like Warner Bros is moving quick with The Dark Knight cinematographer Wally Pfister's directorial debut, Transcendence, starring Johnny Depp. With casting confirmations arriving this week, Deadline is reporting that Transcendence is now set to hit theaters on April 25th, 2014 (in wide release). That's exactly one week before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters in early May 2014, so it seems like they may be trying to move up the opening summer spot. Pfister's sci-fi Transcendence, set to star Depp and Paul Bettany so far, is about a scientist whose brain is uploaded into his creation - a supercomputer with the potential to think for itself. We'll keep a close watch on this as they finalize casting and begin shooting.

Yea, also he's a DP not a director with a proven track record. What's all the excitement about?

"What's all the excitement about?" It's sci-fi and Chris Nolan is attached (kind of)

So just cause Chris Nolan is "kind of" attached you're getting your hopes up? Wait until we get some better news, after all cinematographers who switch to directing don't always make the best movies.

Oh, I'm not personally getting my hopes up. I was just referencing what other people might say. I read an (early) copy of the script and it does have a good premise, but it gets a little silly towards the end. I'm assuming that's one of the things Depp was waiting to get rewritten before he fully committed to the film.
