Over the past few weeks, Star Wars fans have been treated to little snippets of rarely seen footage from Return of the Jedi. A laserdisc release of the film featured 30 minutes of raw footage which included outtakes, different angles, and even some unseen, unused dialogue. Now Charlie Owen (via The Playlist) has finally posted the entire piece of footage that is uncut, with off-camera audio and multiple angles of Scene 50 between Luke Skywalker and Yoda on Dagobah. The quality isn't that great, but you still get the idea of what's going on here. And there's an intriguing bit of dialogue that could have changed the film entirely.
Here's the 30 minutes of raw footage from Return of the Jedi, from Charlie Owen:
In the scene in question, Yoda has a line that didn't make the cut of the film. When speaking about the fact that Anakin Skywalker is Luke's father, Yoda says, "Obi-Wan would have told you long ago, had I let him." As THR points out, “They lied to Luke Skywalker to manipulate him into considering Darth Vader an enemy to be beaten, rather than the former ally — and Luke's father — that he really was.” Imagine what Luke might have done if he felt even remotely betrayed by his mentors. It would give him an interesting reason to go to the Dark Side (something that happens for a time in the books that followed the films), and it would have been an interesting lead-in for Episode VII. But alas, all we have is this deleted scene. Any thoughts?

A slice of movie history, before all the revisions and retcons and terrible prequels.
