Pacific Rim CES Trailer

Whoa! With the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) underway in Las Vegas this week, it's no surprise we're getting some teasers from the showfloor. JoBlo found what is labeled a "CES Qualcomm" trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, the giant monsters vs robots movie that just got its first full trailer back in December. I'm guessing this is playing around the Qualcomm booth in some promo, given tweets from those at the convention. This trailer is much more action-heavy and shows us more of how the robots work, and fight, and kick ass, starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Idris Elba with the "apocalypse".

Watch the new CES Qualcomm trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, found via JoBlo on YouTube:

Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) is directing Pacific Rim from a script by Travis Beacham. The film follows a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger, a massive robot designed to fight legions of monstrous creatures known as Kaiju, which started rising from the sea years ago. They stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse. The film also stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Clifton Collins Jr. Warner Bros will release Pac Rim in theaters in 3D starting July 12th, 2013. Excited?

Absolutely incredible. Quickly becoming my most anticipated film of the year.

DAVIDPD on Jan 7, 2013

Certainly is on my "must see" list...keeping fingers crossed that it delivers.

Scopedog on Jan 7, 2013

Hella dig that "THE THING" tear at the end.

DAVIDPD on Jan 7, 2013

Is it possible to BWAUMMMMMMMM in your pants?

"Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!" Again.

bombayrefugee on Jan 8, 2013

That makes more sense than what I heard first time.. "We are Cancer in the Apocalypse!"

Dearsleazy on Jan 8, 2013

Idris got a cool commander Sheppard suit.

Tyrell Antonio on Jan 7, 2013

Looks pretty cool but does anyone else kinda think the robots look like giant Spartans from Halo?

flbball23 on Jan 7, 2013

Wow I'm so giddy for this film, definitely on my top must watch list.

Kwaz on Jan 7, 2013

Is there only one monster?

The_Phantom on Jan 7, 2013

There can only be one.

Manuel on Jan 8, 2013

You, sir, are a true genius! 😛

Spider_Man on Jan 8, 2013

BWWWAAAAAOOOOOMMMMM A better trailer for sure, I always wanted a Robot Jox 2 film. 😉 BWWWAAAAAOOOOOMMMMM

HyperJ on Jan 7, 2013

YES! So glad someone made a Robot Jox reference here!

Professor Brian O'blivion on Jan 8, 2013

Gonna say it but just looks awful. I was hoping the first trailer was just a bad trailer but this is no better. I just think Power Rangers all the way through and the way they control the robots also looks cheap and stupid. I am not trolling but does anyone else get a bad feeling about this?

Vietnamthemovie on Jan 7, 2013

wtf were you expecting we have known it is about giant robots controlled by humans within them fighter giant monsters this is a genre b film through and through and this film looks exactly like it's synopsis has said for months

hg on Jan 8, 2013

Yeah. I know what you are saying but as for 'event' or 'summer' movies the bar has been raised so high by the likes of Nolan, JJ, Synder, Jackson etc that things like this fail to impress. I hope I am wrong and it is just a really bad trailer.

Vietnamthemovie on Jan 8, 2013

This looks like garbage. Today, I am canceling my orders for this film.

WBsGreenLantern on Jan 7, 2013

Mr brain! could you make a frame in whole your life time?

Bob on Jan 8, 2013

MAYBE Transformers 10 or Avatar 10 reach the place that Pacific Rim would reach to that. Fantastic Wishable SiFi that was in my dreams when I was kid , when I had watched japanies animes and I got close my eyes and get sank in the only world that I want just live it that.

Ehsan Davodi on Jan 8, 2013

This is a great trailer from a great movie from a great talented director, Guillermo del Toro.

Looks terrible

Geoffrey Shauger on Jan 8, 2013

J'pense Robert Maillet garde pretty Badass.

East coast Canuck on Jan 8, 2013

I'm not convinced/sold just yet. So far it looks like another CGI-fest, I'm tired of those...Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to this movie, especially because of Del Toro, Idris Elba and Charlie Hunman (who is rly getting more and more hollywood roles as of late, well he is great in Sons of Anarchy). But by now the marketing looks like Transformers 3 with seamonsters to me,,,

thechillerdewd on Jan 8, 2013

It looks like a cross between the Power Rangers movies and Transformers. I hope is good but I am not sold yet.

Juan F Rodriguez on Jan 8, 2013

So, basically, a mix of Transformers, Independence Day and Godzilla, with a few squirts of Iron Man, Battleship and Matrix Revolutions. Why am I supposed to get excited about another characterless, plot-weak, CGI-heavy crash-bang retread?

bombayrefugee on Jan 8, 2013

Because if you'd like you can watch a double feature of Les Miserables and Pacific Rim. Both genres have a place in Hollywood and I like to be able to choose if I feel like turning off my brain and watching explosions for a couple hours. And you're not allowed to say it's characterless and has a weak plot until you actually watch the film. The trailer shows crash-bangs because it's eye popping and gets your attention so don't judge a book by its cover.

Matt Peloquin on Jan 8, 2013

I like good sci-fi stories. I'm betting Pacific Rim isn't going to be a story but yet another CGI spectacle: shouting, explosions and big things clobbering other big things. And you know what? I am allowed to say that. In the last few years most of what Hollywood has produced in the sci-fi genre is mindless spectacle with feeble stories and characters. There have been exceptions but this does not look like one of them. I'd love to be wrong.

bombayrefugee on Jan 8, 2013

Good script, good director, solid cast, Legendary involved...I think this will be the exception to the trend of Hollywood just cashing in on mindless explosions. This is not a reboot or a sequel and is based on entirely new material which was conceived by the film maker and not some studio suits. I think we need to wait and see, but to me, seeing original concepts is a breath of fresh air. The attention to detail, such as getting GlaDOS to do the admin voice, tells me that they know what the fans want and are going to deliver. I think Del Toro has something to prove with this film after The Hobbit debacle and Mountains of Madness getting shut down so I sincerely think that this is going to be something very special. But I could be completely wrong as I thought The Last Airbender was going to be Shyamylan's saving grace too.

Matt Peloquin on Jan 8, 2013

I have to agree with the other guy that this movie looks like another mindless spectacle. If it's not, then great. It just looks that way.

castingcouch on Jan 8, 2013

You act as if all Sci-fi from before was all story / amazing characters lol. Please. The ratio is still the same no matter what genre you look at. Some are more brainless than others. It's just mathematics. Stop getting upset over movies YOU don't enjoy, and instead just enjoy the ones you do.

Daniel Vu Tran on Jan 10, 2013

You forgot Cloverfield.

Dhiram on Jan 8, 2013

i am in! Sometimes i like big giant robots doing nothing more than destroy and destroy! Del toro is not Peter Berg and every movie from him is very satisfying so this will be awesome! I like every genre and i can guarantee that del Toro will do a great job with it! Number 2 on my to see list after onley god forgives...

avi on Jan 8, 2013

I have zero interest in this - looks awful.

nathan on Jan 8, 2013

Did I just hear GLaDOS at 00:37? :O

Dearsleazy on Jan 8, 2013

Only appearing in the traielr wont be in the movie from what I read

Kaim on Jan 10, 2013

This looks like something I would have enjoyed when I was 5 years old.

Geoffrey Shauger on Jan 8, 2013

Okay, so why do they keep showing the same fight, and robot against monster in every trailer? In the rain and at night? This is what Tim Burton was supposed to be doing for Monsterpocalypse at Dreamworks, but I guess that movie won't get greenlit unless Pacific Rim, Godzilla, and the upcoming Gaiking movie does extremely well.

jah p on Jan 8, 2013

Still looks like crap, still not in my 2013 Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies

Tester on Jan 8, 2013

I liked the first trailer more.

Brian Sleider on Jan 8, 2013

With the exception of Ender's Game, the movie I most want to see in 2013.

Elkensteyin on Jan 8, 2013

This year's Battleship.
