Watch: Christian Bale Auditions for 'Batman Begins' with Amy Adams

Though Christopher Nolan's masterful superhero trilogy came to an end last summer with The Dark Knight Rises, the film series is getting a new release in the form of The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition, hitting shelves tomorrow. There are some great new special features in the collection that haven't been release before, and one has just been unveiled online. Christian Bale has been regarded as the best Batman of all-time, but before that, the actor had to audition to get the role. Footage of his audition, along with help from Amy Adams in the role that would go to Katie Holmes, has now surfaced.

Though the actress only participated in the screen test as a favor, it's interesting that Adams went on to become Lois Lane in Man of Steel. And with the forthcoming sequel in the Superman franchise incorporating a new Batman, she'll get to share the big screen with The Dark Knight after all. As for Bale's audition, you can see that he had that grizzly Batman voice from the very beginning. Fans should also notice that he's wearing the Batman suit that Val Kilmer donned in Batman Forever. This new Blu-Ray set is also said to include video of Cilian Murphy's audition for Batman, which didn't land him the coveted role, but impressed Nolan enough to get cast as Scarecrow instead, not to mention recurring in the sequels. I wouldn't have hired him based on that audition...strange :/ I was never a fun of Bale's batman, and a big part of that is the voice and how he moves his mouth in a weird way. But hey, it all works out in the end, thanks to the mastery of Nolan I suppose. I'd take Amy Adams over Katie Holmes any day!

Too bad that WB is double dipping and setting out a "new and improved super duper" trilogy to tempt us with. That said, great post Ethan...thanks for sharing it with us. Very cool to see Bale in the test footage. Of course I didn't need molded plastic to improve my physique...PURE. WEST.
