This awards season it looks like we get two stellar performances from Christian Bale, and they're both coming next month, one weekend after the other. On December 13th we get American Hustle, but the week before that we get Out of the Furnace, the newest film from Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper. Bale goes blue collar in this film about an ex-con who has to get his younger military veteran brother (Casey Affleck) out of trouble when he gets in too deep as part of a bare-knuckle boxing ring. There he has to contend with shady guys like Willem Dafoe and Woody Harrelson. It looks like a strong performance driven piece, and now an extended TV spot gives us another look at what the film will deliver this winter. Watch below!
Here's the extended TV spot for Scott Cooper's Out of the Furnace from the film's YouTube channel:
Out of the Furnace is directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart), who wrote the film with Brad Inglesby. Russell (Chistian Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) live in the economically-depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast - a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or seeking justice for his brother. Actors Woody Harrelson, Zoe Saldana, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe and Sam Shepard also star in the film which Relativity Media releases December 6th.
Two movies coming out that don't have any superheroes, aren't sequels, not filled with explosions? Hmmm, my guess is they'll flop.

Those are my favorite kind of new movies. Looks pretty great, doesn't it...although they could've thrown Zoe a bone and written "Watched The Academy Awards Show" before her name.

Adding to the article title an actor's name who shares top billing with six other incredible actors is just pathetically obvious pageview whoring. There, I said it.

Have you seen the movie? Christian Bale is the star, but there's an incredible ensemble cast surrounding him. It's not hit whoring when he's obviously the big name that will draw people to a film that is much smaller than The Dark Knight Trilogy. We want people to see good films like this, and someone like Bale gets general audiences interested in them. If our headline format allowed it, we would love to include all their names, but that's not how it works. Thanks.

It's hit whoring when you use his name to get to the top of the search engine lists.
