Watch: First Awesome Trailer for Joon-ho Bong's 'Snowpiercer' Arrives

"Wilford!" Is it time? Yes it is! We've been waiting to see a trailer for Joon-ho Bong's Snowpiercer and we finally have one. Though it comes from the other side of the world (via naver.com), at least it's footage and damn does it look good. Snowpiercer stars an ensemble cast aboard a gigantic train (built by Wilford!) that travels around the world now in a new ice age. Tilda Swinton plays a Dolores Umbridge-like Mason, with Chris Evans, Kang-ho Song, Octavia Spencer, John Hurt, Jamie Bell and Ewen Bremner leading an uprising. This looks as awesome as I was hoping, with a hugely deep world (that reminds me of BioShock) and tons of kick ass action. I totally love the way Joon-ho Bong shoots his film, and I cannot wait to see this!

The cast for Joon-ho Bong's Snowpiercer includes Chris Evans with Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Oscar winners Tilda Swinton & Octavia Spencer, Ewen Bremner, Kang-ho Song and Luke Pasqualino as passengers on the train. Joon-ho describes Snow Piercer as a post-apocalyptic movie about a few survivors who end up on a massive train that is divided by economic classes. "With a revolt brewing onboard, the Snow Piercer is a train of Earth's lone survivors that travels around the cold world." The Weinstein Company is planning a "wide summer 2013" release for the movie, but no date has been set yet. It will be released in South Korea coming up in August. We expect to see it over here soon after.

Does there need to be one? Well...no...but I want one! Anyways. Snowpiercer looks pretty awesome...the shot of Evan uppercutting the black masked guard was pretty fucking sweet.

It's a little less than I expected. I was hoping for something really dark and slow, but this trailer has a lot of bright, cheery, action and frenetic cuts. If there turns out to be wire work and some Kung-fu, I won't actually be surprised. They also better have good reasoning behind why humanity's remaining electricity is being devoted to a single, circumnavigating train carting people around forever. I do like a left-field scifi concept, but not when it seems ill-conceived as if the result of a comic book brainstorm session. "Imagine the government let everyone commit crimes for one night!". "Imagine there was an ice age and the only thing left was a train of people and limitless fuel!". It's short story pulp stuff.

i am also underwhelmed, but i'd put a lot of that down to the terrible quality (particularly sound) of this trailer. this is a director with ability and a superb cast, and what we see gives a strong impression of the social divisions from the trailer. however, i could not make out what The Swinton said in most of that trailer, and quite frankly The Swinton is the boss so i want to know. i hope that this is a slower film, but that this is a trailer cut to draw in the masses. colour me fingers crossed.

Looks good, thought the train would've been more massive/futuristic. But yeah the audio is terrible, have no clue what Swinton is saying which ruins it (the trailer).
