"If you want to survive, do and say as little as possible." Fox Searchlight has unveiled the first 45-second TV spot for Steve McQueen's masterpiece 12 Years a Slave, the slavery drama starring Chiwetel Ejiofor (read our interview with him here) in the true story of a free man enslaved for 12 years. In addition to Ejifor, co-stars Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Paul Dano and Lupita Nyong'o make strong appearances in this. The film has been receiving raves and won TIFF's Audience Award. I called it "a profound cinematic achievement on every level" in my own review. I love the music in this new TV spot. This film is a must see.
Here's the first TV spot for Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, found on YouTube (via The Film Stage):
Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (of Serenity, Kinky Boots, Children of Men, American Gangster, Salt) as Solomon Northup, a man living in New York during the mid-1800s who is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the deep south. The film has an incredible ensemble cast to go along, featuring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Beasts nominee Quvenzhané Wallis, Dwight Henry, Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sarah Paulson, Michael K. Williams & Marcus Lyle Brown. Fox Searchlight has the film set for limited release on October 18th this month. 12 Years a Slave will be released in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Atlanta and Toronto first. Is it just me or does the music seem out of place for slavery themed trailer?
