Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

"Something has to change." In the midst of Comic-Con, The Weinstein Company has decided to debut the full-length trailer for Justin Chadwick's Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, starring Idris Elba as the iconic South African humanitarian/liberator Nelson Mandela. Just last week they unveiled a teaser trailer which didn't feature much besides a voiceover with Elba in Mandela's acccent, but now we get to explore the character and complete story and it certainly looks powerful. In addition to Elba, the cast includes Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela. But I think it's Idris who may at least get a nomination out of this. Take a look.

Watch the full trailer for Justin Chadwick's Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, originally via Yahoo:

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) and written by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Miserables). Idris Elba leads the film which chronicles Nelson Mandela's life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa. Naomie Harris (Skyfall) co-stars as Mandela's wife Winnie with a supporting cast that also includes Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva, Deon Lotz and Terry Pheto. The Weinstein Company will give the film a limited release starting November 29th. Awards contender?

"But I think it's Idris who may at least get a nomination out of this." - A. Billington, master of stating the obvious.

I am liking this. This season's LUTHER has been fantastic. I expect nothing but greatness from Elba.

Wow that is without doubt the best trailer I have seen all year. How true stories make for much better watching! Ambition and drive are great forces for storytelling. Idris is just such an amazing actor!!

Looks good, though it also looks like a typical biopic.

Looks decent enough, one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. I'm looking forward to seeing this.

..yeah can't wait for the Osama bin Laden story from "their" perspective. But since Hollywood deals only in black and white cliches even when it's trying to tell a "true" story we are never going to see that movie.

An Osie B movie from his perspective would rule.

What's the matter "Bob" ? Can't face the fact the good ol' US of A basically created Osama ? Don't you know that most of the bad shit that happens in the world is caused by inane foreign policies of 'mericah ? And I'm not talking about conspiracy shit either. That's right 'mericah is not "the good guys". It's just like any other empire in human history. A burden on the human species.
