Dead Island

Though we're not a video game news destination, unless one of those games is being turned into a movie, a couple years ago we featured the stunning trailer for the zombie apocalypse game Dead Island. The game that hit shelves last summer was picked up by Lionsgate for a feature film adaptation, but we haven't heard any news on the development. But maybe the project will gain some new life once fans see this incredible live-action recreation of the trailer. It's professionally done and captures pretty much everything awesome about the original game trailer. It's pretty violent and bloody, so be careful where you take a look. Watch!

Here's the live-action trailer for Dead Island, originally from Machinima:

The original video game trailer won the Golden Lion in Cannes at the International Festival of Creativity, the advertising industry's highest honor, and it was featured by Adweek on their annual list of the World's Best Commercials. The fact that it's recreated so masterfully here is extremely impressive. When the film adaptation was announced, it was said, "Like the trailer that will serve as its primary creative inspiration, the film Dead Island will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling." Until the film gets off the ground, this should hold fans over. Cool?

Wow. I forgot how effective that trailer was. Wonderfully redone.

Didn't know about this trailer but it's pretty awesome. Saw the trailer first and then the live-action remake. Love the usage of time to create that dual narrative. Although, that final shot in the trailer where the father (I assume) both takes the hand of his daughter and lets it go while they're looking at each other, is what drove it home for me. It felt like a very powerful moment which kind of gets lost because it's framed slightly differently in the live-action clip.
