The Avengers Storyboard Animatics

There's always deleted scenes that are left on the cutting room floor when a feature film makes its way towards the big screen, and many cases those scenes can be seen on the Blu-Ray or DVD releases of any given film. However, when dealing with a special effects heavy blockbusters like The Avengers or Iron Man 3, those deleted scenes are usually a little less complete, because those kind of editing decisions are made before special effects and other costly elements are figured into the film. But that doesn't mean we still can get a taste of alternate scenes in those films, and that's exactly what some storyboard animatics of scenes in the aforementioned Marvel movies offer us. Thankfully, some have been released online. Watch!

Here are the animatics from storyboard artist Federico D’Alessandro for Iron Man 3 (via SlashFilm):

And here are D'Alessandro's storyboard animatics for The Avengers (via ComingSoon):

In the above storyboard animatics for Iron Man 3, you'll see a slightly different fate for The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), some more action for Rhodey (Don Cheadle) and a bit more fighting between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce). Meanwhile, in the videos for The Avengers, there's some slightly different variations on some scenes from the big finale in Manhattan, including a different introduction to the alien army and their giant space slugs, which even Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is caught off guard by. There's also a much different confrontation between Loki and Tony Stark while the portal is being set up. All in all, this just goes to show you how a film like this evolves over time. Cool?

Just me or did they attempt to draw Stan Lee into that crowd reaction scene in the first Avengers clip?

I asked this question on another website that posted these (which are pretty great by the way). Ethan, maybe you can dig into this question a bit when you do your interviews with Feige and those guys. In the Stark-Loki animatic, are we seeing the initial concepts (or impetus) for the creation of Ultron? I can totally understand how the idea of Loki screwing with JARVIS could lead to the concept of how they give life to Ultron without Pym.

Nevermind, IO9 reported this morning that Disney sources have confirmed my assumptions.
