Pacific Rim

With just over a couple weeks until release, the hype machine for Pacific Rim is wrapping up, and one of the final touches is this extended, 2-minute TV spot with plenty of action. It's getting to the point that if you're not convinced that the new film from Guillermo del Toro is something to be witnessed on the big screen, then it's a lost cause. Plus, for the music fans, the title theme track from the film's soundtrack from composer Ramin Djawadi and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello (the two collaborated on the original Iron Man soundtrack) has just been unveiled, and it's quite an epic orchestral rock track.

Here's the new extended TV spot for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim from Facebook:

And here's the title track from the Pacific Rim soundtrack, via Rolling Stone:

Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) is directing Pacific Rim from a script by Travis Beacham. The film follows a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger, a massive robot designed to fight legions of monstrous creatures known as Kaiju, which started rising from the sea years ago. They stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse. The film also stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Clifton Collins Jr. Warner Bros will release Pacific Rim in theaters in 3D on July 12th. Are you ready?

The more I see of Pacific Rim, the more I want to see Pacific Rim. At this point I'm asking, "are these the iconic moments of the film?" or "are the real iconic moments in the film?". If Guillermo del Toro is all that everyone claims, I would guess the latter.

I'm the exact opposite. The more I see the more I do NOT want to see this film. Del Toro and WB are go out of their way to divorce themselves from the Asian origins of this film except for the Tolkien Asian female lead.

This has a lot of potential to be bad, but I have to say I'm excited to see it, none the less! I'll just buy my popcorn, leave my brain at the concession stand, and go watch the pretty pictures!

Dude... thats exactly the way I am going to see it. Considering all of the re-boots and sequels coming out more and more in the summer time... its nice to just get a crazy ass monster fighting movie to see. I grew up watching all the horrible Godzilla vs movies and this looks way better than those! 🙂
