Machete Kills

Over the weekend, Avatar co-star Michelle Rodriguez partook in a Comic-Con panel sponsored by Entertainment Weekly about Women Who Kick Ass. Along with actresses ("Nikita"), Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica"), Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black"), and Danai Gurira ("The Walking Dead"), the bad ass girls talked about the struggles of being women in an industry dominated by males, and also the difficulty of being women of action in a genre also dominated by tough guys. Hopefully you can find the panel in full online soon, but in the meantime, a short sizzle reel from Machete Kills showed Rodriguez kicking ass and taking names in the Robert Rodriguez directed grindhouse sequel, and you can watch now.

Here's the short Michelle Rodriguez sizzle reel for Machete Kills, originally from Comic-Con:

In the sequel Machete Kills, the seemingly invincible badass Mexican (Danny Trejo) is recruited by the U.S. government to help track down an arms dealer in Mexico who's looking to launch a weapon into space. The film from director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Spy Kids, The Faculty, Desperado) and writer Kyle Ward also features Amber Heard, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, William Sadler, Charlie Sheen, Demián Bichir and more. Open Road Films releases the sequel in theaters on September 13th . Excited?

Agree, but this is a promo, made for SDCC 2013, what we see here might not even been cut into the finished product; this is just a taste of whats to come. It wouldn't surprise me if Robert shot this the weekend(or day) before SDCC, just to have something to show. He likes to do that kinda thing and show footage that won't be in the movie when it comes out. Something about this reminded me about Spy Kids or even parts of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? 🙂
