Time for a quick tease - a very quick tease, only 20 seconds, if even that. Our friends at SlashFilm recently stumbled across a teaser clip/trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives, the next film from Refn also starring Ryan Gosling again. We've been hearing about this one for a while, since it filmed in Bangkok, Thailand back in early 2012 with Gosling looking beat to hell. The teaser sheds very little light on the "Thai-set revenge" story, but it obviously involves some kickboxing, guns, masks and also Kristin Scott Thomas, plus Vithaya Pansringarm with a sword. It's barely much, but looks great, I'm sold enough.
Here's the first teaser for Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives, found on YouTube by SlashFilm:
Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family's drugs smuggling operation. When Julian's brother is killed their mother, Jenna (Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and to find the killer. Julian's contacts in the criminal underworld lead him to The Angel of Vengeance (Pansringarm), a retired police officer who knows everything and is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.
Nicholas Winding Refn (Drive) writes & directs Only God Forgives, a film that been described as a modern "East meets West" western, about a kickboxer-turned-gangster (played by Gosling) in Thailand who must fight to avenge the murder of his brother. We expect to see this at Cannes 2013 and released later in the fall.

For some stupid reason it reminded me of Van Damme's Kickboxer from the 80s. Anyway I'm intrigued.

The lighting/setting has somewhat of a Blade Runner feel. I'm stoked for this one!

Think I might be the only person in the world who didn't love Drive. Kept waiting for the pace to explode out the gate... to no avail. Great casting, acting, writing and a top notch trailer, but there was no sense of urgency, even when people started dying. I'll wait and see with this one.

This might be the first Refn movie with an actual plot. Mind you I haven't seen any of the Pushers.

Bronson is underrated, Drive is overrated..we'll see how this one turns out. I like the look of it so far, it better be good.

the movie i must see, but it will not be better than drive but just as good i good enough for me! This must be the breakthrough movie for Refn, so he can do things he only wants to do and than we wil see pieces of art from him... For me he will be the new sorcese...

Just because Drive was good, doesn't mean this movie will be. Woop-dee-fucking-doo it's Ryan Gosling as the lead role. Don't jump the band wagon just because everyone's dick gets hard for this guy.
