Watch: Retro PBS Special on the Making of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
The next few days aren't going to have much in the vein of movie news since people will be stuffing themselves with turkey and fighting each other on Black Friday. But we figured we'd give you a little piece of cinema history to gorge yourself on over the long weekend. Raiders of the Lost Ark hit theaters in 1981, and around that time, PBS put together an hour-long making-of documentary that takes an awesome look behind the scenes of the film that revived the action adventure. It's cool to see a young Steven Spielberg working for certain performances and a dry Harrison Ford vaguely lamenting some of the stunts. Watch!
Here's the hour-long making of documentary looking at Raiders of the Lost Ark (via SlashFilm):
Some people might think Ford has gotten grumpy in his older years with people asking endless (usually terrible) questions about Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but this glimpse behind the scenes shows Ford has always been cynical. For example, when discussing the stunt of being dragged behind the truck, he says, "I’m sure it’s not dangerous. If it was dangerous they would have waited until we’d got more of the movie done.” Other than that, this is a great dive into one of the greatest action adventures ever made. I wish PBS still did film docs like this, but I guess with all the featurettes online and on home video, it's not needed.
Watch Harrison's old interviews. He's always been grouchy..
