Son of God

Following the success of "The Bible" on History, the producers are back with another tale inspired by the religious book. Son of God follows Jesus Christ (Diogo Morgado) from his birth to his loyally followed teachings and milestone events such as the crucifixion and resurrection. This is the first time a major motion picture from a studio like 20th Century Fox has focused on Jesus since the controversial but successful Passion of the Christ from Mel Gibson, and now we have a trailer. Because of the subject matter, this has a built-in audience who will take buses to see the film, but we doubt it will be a box office giant.

Here's the trailer for Christopher Spencer's Son of God, originally from Yahoo:

Son of God is directed by Christopher Spencer ("The Bible") from a script co-written by Colin Swash, Nic Young & Richard Bedser (all writers of "The Bible"). Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado portrays the role of Jesus as the film spans from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrection. Featuring a score by Hans Zimmer, the film also stars Greg Hicks, Adrian Schiller, Darwin Shaw, Sebastian Knapp, Joe Wredden, Simon Kunz, Paul Marc Davis, Matthew Gravelle, Amber Rose Revah, Roma Downey and more. 20th Century Fox releases the film just before Ash Wednesday on February 28th, 2014. Well?

Gibson did it right...please just leave it at that. This looks horrible.

Missed a few seconds there because I fell out of my lollicopter. 'I am coming soon', good luck with that Jesus.

Not sure about this one. The problem with this movie is that the producers seem to have set out to make a Christian film just for Christian audiences, and it comes off like a made for tv film. Now, while The Passion of the Christ automatically attracted a Christian audience, it seemed to me that Gibson set out to simply make an amazing film that could appeal to any audience who wanted to see a powerful film regardless of the subject matter. This may be a good retelling of the story but I'm not sure it will have the gravitas that Passion had. I'm surprised this isn't getting released around Easter.

it's actually footage culled from the History Channel's Bible series so yeah it has that "cheap" look. I can imagine some producer came up with a quick way to make a few bucks trying to replicate Passions success......

I don't think these guys understand the character of Jesus or maybe I just have a different concept, but it doesn't feel authentic.

I think your statement is accurate David. I think actors either play him too stoic or too smiley. This one is no different.

Damn you're wright! Hate it that they gave away that the dude can walk on water!

A mainstream, all appealing film about the historical Jesus is possible that focuses on his teachings. This doesn't appear to be it.

Is it just me or does Jesus seem a bit drunk in this movie? It's like the dude playing him is taking acting lessons from Jack Sparrow.

That's CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow.

Hey Ethan and team- this isnt a new movie or spinoff..its literally the scenes from the Bible TV series stitched together! Did you see any of it? all this is the TV show put into a movie..nothing new at all...did no one catch that? When you say its from the director and writers of the Bible..um..this is literally the Bible tv series that already came out. Watch it..or maybe contact the producers and they will tel you..

Sorry everyone but I watched the entire Bible Miniseries on History Channel and actor Diogo Morgado who played Jesus was AMAZING. The series was awesome and very true to the Bible both New and Old Testaments. I can't wait to see this movie and it's being released by 20th Century Fox. I'm so excited Hollywood is going back to making Bible Films. It has an incredible market and audience it will attract. This year we will also get one of my favorite directors Darren Aronofsky's take on "Noah" coming out March 28th and then Legendary director Ridley Scott's "Exodus" with Christian Bale as Moses coming out in December. So I'm SUPER excited!

But are you missing the point that this isnt a new movie from them? every scene in this trailer was from The Bible miniseries...im totally confused by this post ..are they just cutting the tv series together for a movie?

dofad on Nov 27, 2013

Even though the story has little meaning for me, I have to agree the miniseries was well-done; one of the better attempts at Biblical story-telling.
