Olympus Has Fallen Trailer

"The United States of America doesn't negotiate with terrorists!" FilmDistrict has debuted their trailer for their White House takeover action movie (not to be confused with White House Down) called Olympus Has Fallen, which is the Secret Service codename for the building. Aaron Eckhart stars as the President, along with Gerard Butler as basically the John McClane of the story, and Morgan Freeman as the Speaker. It's another Antoine Fuqua action movie with cheesy Hollywood CGI action, but it does look like Die Hard at the White House which is enough to get me to go see it. I just hope it isn't too cheesy in the end. Enjoy!

Watch the first official trailer for Antoine Fuqua's Olympus Has Fallen, in high def via Apple:

When the White House (Secret Service Code: "Olympus") is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning's inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster. Olympus Has Fallen is directed by Antoine Fuqua, of Training Day, Tears of the Sun, King Arthur, Shooter and Brooklyn's Finest previously. FilmDistrict is releasing in theaters March 22nd this spring. What say you?

Those graphics look incredibly bad and the film doesn't come off as entertaining -- especially compared to the "real" DIE HARD movie coming out next month (which is hopefully better than 4.0) I'll hold out for White House Down.

Josiah IsEpic Rizzo on Jan 22, 2013

5

Hold out for White House Down if you want an overproduced shit show with no substance. Olympus Has Fallen looks like itโ€™s actually going to be the true Die Hard in a White House.

BradBrad92 on Feb 1, 2013

6

That looks awesome and I love the ethical question the car falling into the water presented. Normally you'd save women and children first in that situation and it would be hard to ignore that in order to save the POTUS.

7

But saving the president takes precedent over anything else...sadly...she's hot.

The director and actor were planning to make that movie. I guess when it failed they decided to edit it enough no to get sued and change company

wow. the cgi is definitely not finished yet. but it does look promising as a brainless action film. i'm in.

Linkfx on Jan 22, 2013

14

The CGI is absolutely horrific! This is why I'm such a CGI hater, because unless they spend tons of money on it then it comes out looking like totally FAKE ASS! It's hard to immerse yourself and enjoy a movie when half the action looks like a damn cartoon.

WTF? Two White House invasion movies? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2334879/

Dan Hibiki on Jan 22, 2013

16

Seriously America WTF? This is like watching every 90's action film with Die Hard strings attached and then you go and throw in Propaganda shit everywhere. The vfx don't even hold up. YUCK. The irony is a Brit is playing the hero in an american bravado film.

nathan on Jan 22, 2013

17

The so called Brit is actually from Scotland.

Guest on Jan 22, 2013

18

Scottish are Brits you donut, Alas they will call themselves Sots but they are British.

nathan on Jan 22, 2013

19

Seriously Nathan WTF? Its a movie. Chill and realize that every nation has these so called "Propaganda" films come out every now and again.

Xerxexx on Jan 22, 2013

20

I know, I know but do we really have to keep going around in circles like this - where is the originality? No one buys this shit.

nathan on Jan 22, 2013

21

Originality died in the 90's. Everything has been done. All we can hope for is that someone comes along and shakes up the formula.

Xerxexx on Jan 22, 2013

22

Actually, methinks it kicked the bucket back in the 1950s...but agreed, everything has been done. All one can do is shake up the formula and take familiar things in an unfamiliar direction. (Which reminds me of Tom Sizemore's speech about originality in STRANGE DAYS, but I'm not going to bother to go into that here....)

Scopedog on Jan 22, 2013

23

Indeed.

Xerxexx on Jan 22, 2013

24

there truly is no creativity right now; its as if were in a dark age. the only media that comes out is either a horrible remake that has been done a thousand times or a sequel.

anon on Mar 3, 2013

25

Why do you say America? Like the populace has some control over what studios and producers decide to put out....and even though people will go see this you are in a forum full of cinephiles who arent exactly your normal moviegoers so stop yelling at the wrong people.

Cody W on Jan 22, 2013

26

Butler isn't British though

DanTheMan on Jan 25, 2013

Can't wait to see it

Fuqua makes great movies and yes it looks like a die hard sequel but who cares! I will have a pleasant time watching it!

29

Cole Hauser is behind everything. Look at his evil face!! (Most likely his regular face)

Brandon V. Fletcher on Jan 22, 2013

30

Anytime Antoine Fuqua directs something the CGI looks like ass, why is that?

Fatal Error on Jan 22, 2013

31

So let me get this straight: Radha Mitchell and Cole Hauser are in this movie? I'm seeing it.

Xerxexx on Jan 22, 2013

32

Hmmm....toss in a Vin Diesel cameo and you've got a PITCH BLACK reunion right there....

Scopedog on Jan 22, 2013

33

I know right!

Xerxexx on Jan 22, 2013

34

It never seems to work when two movies with similar plots come out around the same time. The Prestige/The Illusionist, Kick-Ass/Super/Defendor, etc. You can easily argue these are, at their core, distinct from each other, but the problem is the audience doesn't read into it deeply enough to know. They usually pick one or the other. That's why I'm not putting too much faith in the Need for Speed adaption, since the Fast and Furious movies are apparently going to last for forever, and they'll likely bump up against each other. All that said, my money's on White House Down to be better and do better at the box office. I'm not entirely sure why, but I just don't like Gerard Butler as an action hero. He works better in stuff like Law Abiding Citizen.

the_situasian on Jan 22, 2013

35

Good point about the two movies/similar plots...remember DEEP IMPACT and ARMAGEDDON?

Scopedog on Jan 22, 2013

36

Volcano and Dante's Peak?

grimjob on Jan 22, 2013

37

Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror? Even The Matrix is a rip/remix of Dark City.

Frankie Hollywood on Jan 31, 2013

38

Ahhh, Dark City. Great movie, haven't seen that in years.

grimjob on Feb 1, 2013

39

Fuqua knows his way around an action flick...but the plot is stupidly similar to a certain Mitch Rapp novel so this kind of pisses me off.

Cody W on Jan 22, 2013

40

Looks like a fun action yarn. Damn fine cast. Besides, its always fun watching Butler kill folks.

grimjob on Jan 22, 2013

41

Armageddon, Deep Impact. Olympus, White House Down.

ion677 on Jan 22, 2013

42

Looks pretty funny. Someone mentioned propaganda, but really if the whole of America relies on one man who has already been fired to save them then it isn't good publicity.

Carpola on Jan 22, 2013

43

The '90s called, they want their action movie plots back.

Mithun Divakaran on Jan 22, 2013

44

"but it does look like Die Hard at the White House which is enough to get me to go see it." And that's all i've thought during the trailer.

D. on Jan 23, 2013

45

Bad plot, very bad CGI , bad everything. I couldn't even go through the whole trailer.
