Watch: Viking Film 'Hammer of the Gods' Intense Red Band Trailer

"Dark times call for dark deeds." Magnet Releasing has debuted the trailer for Hammer of the Gods, an intense Viking drama about a son who must take an epic journey across hostile territory to find the "king who will lead us to victory." Newcomer Charlie Bewley plays the young Viking warrior Steinar, and the film is directed by Farren Blackburn, who has also been directing "Doctor Who" episodes this season. There aren't many Gods in this and there's barely a hammer in the trailer, but it does look like a gritty, grounded Viking flick about a son who must come into his own. At least this looks much better than Valhalla Rising.
Here's the first red band trailer for Farren Blackburn's Hammer of the Gods, originally from IGN:
Set in Viking Britain in 871 AD, Hammer of the Gods is a visceral, intense tale set in a world whose only language is violence. A young Viking warrior, Steinar (Charlie Bewley), is sent by his father the king on a quest to find his estranged brother, who was banished from the kingdom many years before. Steinar's epic journey across terrifyingly hostile territory allows him to emerge as the man his father wants him to be.
Hammer of the Gods is directed by Farren Blackburn, from a screenplay written by Matthew Read. Magnet Releasing will release Hammer of the Gods on VOD/iTunes on May 30th and in theaters July 5th this year.

Alex, do you approve all articles on FS.net prior to them getting posted? Just curious because I thought Ethan and Ben just did their own things.

If they don't have "The Immigrant Song" from Zeppelin in the trailer it's a wasted fuckin' opportunity. Anyone?

hmm... sensing the use of hyperviolence to mask a poorly writ story. entirely too much of the plot was revealed in that trailer.

You can't know that until you watch it. For all we know the film shifts when Time traveling robot monkeys show up and teach everyone about Multi-level Marketing and everyone gets filthy stinking rich.

Did anyone else see Vikings on the History Channel? That was a good show!

Vikings may have been entertaining but the clothing was completely inaccurate. I wish someone would make a viking-age film or series with clothing based on the actual archaeological record instead of some costume designer's fantasy.

Also without the disfigured and hideous stereotypical oracle/shaman/priest person with a pancake for a face and without a weirdo psycho genius with over the top acting being a weirdo who can speak to the trees or whatever Floki does.God is he annoying with his quirks ,twisting and fidgeting around. Other than that the show is entertaining.

This movie completely blows and is a huge waste of money. The story is weak, the acting is horrible, and nothing even remotely looks like what we know about the vikings. NOTHING. The dialog is horrible. Every other sentence has the F word. In every fight scene they grunt like a pig or growl like a dog...ridiculous. The violence for the sake of violence reminds me of a low budget 70s slasher movie. There is no redeeming character, and nothing that pays homage to Norseman culture or folklore.Don't waste your money.
