William Fichtner Taking 'Iconic' Role in 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'
by Ethan Anderton

Even though production of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is underway in New York City right now with Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, and Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, with Megan Fox playing their trusty reporter friend April O'Neil, there's still roles to be cast. Will Arnett landed an unknown role, but set photos have since revealed that he's playing O'Neil's cameraman Vernon Fenwick. Now Deadline reports William Fichtner (Armageddon, The Dark Knight, The Lone Ranger) has landed a role that is said to have "iconic stature" in the TMNT mythology. Read on!
There are a few options that immediately come to mind. First of all, no one has been cast as the arch nemesis Shredder yet. And while the villain is Japanese in the comics, that doesn't necessarily have to be the case in the film version. Fichtner would make one hell of a Shredder. But the actor's features also make him a decent choice for a grizzled Casey Jones. However, he might be a little too old for that role considering Jones is usually around the same age as April O'Neil. But again, not a hard obstacle to overcome. Digging deeper into the mythology, it would be cool if Fichtner was playing Baxter Stockman, a character we once envisioned for Arnett when his casting was announced.
There's a lot of eyes on this project after the debacle surrounding the turtles' origin in the film, which Michael Bay says is not alien anymore. Plus, with strange casting choices like Danny Woodburn as Splinter, and a director like Jonathan Liebesman on board (who has directed Clash of the Titans and Battle: Los Angeles), we're really not sure what to expect. But we're hoping for the best since it's been far too long since there was a cool live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. And this new motion capture approach to the characters should be pretty impressive. Thoughts?

I cringe with every piece of news I hear about this project, but I'm still really looking forward to it.

Fichtner would make an awesome Baxter Stockman. I still think this movie will suck though.

I grew up on the 80s cartoon so the Baxter I know is white.

Considering that this is a Michael Bay movie, I wouldn't be suprised if he was playing Krang.

He could be playing Agent John Bishop, whose character is from TMNT 2003 version. He was an agent of a secret US organization on eliminating mutant and alien life.

If it's an "iconic role, that really only leaves Shredder. And as for the quality of the movie, I'm for sure going to watch it. I might not like it, but I'm excited either way.

Erm, guys Bay isn't writing OR directing it. Just a producer, film should be fine. i'm really excited for this film either way.

you know what else he produced? Friday The 13th & The Unborn. Just because he's the producer doesn't mean the movie will feel less like a Michael Bay movie. I'm going to assume you don't know a producers role so here a definition taken from wikipedia... "Film producers prepare and then supervise the making of a film before presenting the product to a financing entity or a film distributor.[1] They might be employed by a film studio or be independent, yet either way they helm the creative people as well as the accounting personnel"

I love William Fichtner. I really hope it isn't Shredder... I also hope Splinter doesn't sound like a drunk like he has with anything related to TMNT after Secret of The Ooze. The only thing missing is a Vanilla Ice appearance. Go ninja go ninja go

Not for nothing but Vanilla Ice being in it would be hilarious!

Shredder and Casey both wear helmets or "masks". So, though Fichtner may not be Japanese or young, hiding his face for a majority of the film wouldn't be a difficult obstacle to overcome. Hope he plays Shredder though, he definitely has the villainous voice for it!

Based on looks alone, first thought before reading the article was Rat King.

Shredder. No doubt about it. I mean, just look at his face? ULTIMATE BOSS!!!
