Zac Efron to Lead Mystery Supernatural Project from Akiva Goldsman

Last year, Zac Efron was quite abundant on the big screen from his cheesy romance The Lucky One to his voice role in The Lorax, not to mention his scene-stealing indie role in Liberal Arts and role in the odd film The Paperboy. Now Efron is turning his attention to less lighthearted fare as Heat Vision reports he will star in and produce a mystery supernatural project set up at Warner Bros. called The Falling. As of now the logline is being kept under tight wraps with the only details describing it as an edgy thriller following some sort of otherworldly being. Could this be Efron's I Am Number Four or "Kyle XY" type of story? Read on!
What makes this really interesting is that Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) was presented with the project after the studio came up with an idea. They presented it to Goldsman and Efron, and then the writer hashed out a story with Joby Harold (who helped write All You Need is Kill for Tom Cruise) of Safehoue Pictures, who is also producing with his wife Tory Tunnell. Now the hunt is on for a screenwriter. One would think Goldsman could do that himself, but he's busy shooting Winter's Tale in New York. Without any story details it's hard to get excited, but having Efron work on a film other than a romance or comedy is something different at least, and maybe he can find a lucrative career in action like Shia LaBeouf.

I Am Number Four, Kyle XY and Shia LaBeouf are terrible examples, Ethan. Zac is better than that, even if he has his slip ups. Looking forward to his next film, At Any Price, by the great Ramin Bahrani

Shia LaBeouf is a fantastic actor, so the comparison stands, because I think Zac Efron has some real talent. The titles mentioned are in reference to the vague description of the film and they that came to mind because each has a younger talent in the lead like Efron. So that's not an assessment of his talent at all.

Besides this guy Marcus, just out of curiosity, is there anybody that truly looks forward to seeing Zac in another upcoming film? An Efron follower? Not to bash on him or anything, but I'm as close a follower to Zac Efron as I am to the next Twilight movie to come out (which is not at all).

I am! I adore him and I'm so excited to see how he does! People don't give him enough recognition for his work and it's sad because he actually has potential. Just wait a year when everyone starts talking about him.

I am very interested to see Efron in such a role. He does everything right, he was not afraid to try different directions. He rocks the boat, and this is good. Give the guy time. I think he can be a great actor.
