We finally have another cast member getting ready for Guardians of the Galaxy. Chris Pratt and wrestler Dave Bautista are already lined up to play Star-Lord and Drax the Destroyer respectively, and now Heat Vision reports Zoe Saldana is in talks to play Gamora, a green-skinned humanoid who carries a big sword. It's not a bad transition going from Star Trek Into Darkness to the cosmic comic book realm, and it gives Saldana another franchise to kick ass in, something she does very well. In a way, it's interesting that she's taking on the green Gamora after sharing a room with a similar alien species in Star Trek. Plus, she's already been blue with her role as Neytiri in Avatar, another role she'll reprise down the road. More below!
So who exactly is Gamora? She is the adopted daughter of Thanos who took her under his wing after wiping out her entire race, the Zen Whoberi, leaving her as the sole survivor. Trained to become an assassin, Gamora got wise about her adopted father, turned against him, and ended up being asked by Star-Lord to join the Guardians of the Galaxy (though in between there she has some time with characters like Adam Warlock and Nova). Gamora's skills lie with martial arts and gymnastics, but also has an ace up her sleeve with a dagger that can kill god-like beings, not to mention superhuman strength, agility and speed.
That leaves Groot and Rocket Raccoon to lock down a cast member to bring those effects heavy heroes to life, and director James Gun is probably busy getting those roles sorted out with the June production start getting closer and closer. After getting some recent glimpses at more concept art and the Phase Two preview video, Guardians of the Galaxy is looking quite epic, but it will also be Marvel Studio's biggest risk to date. Guardians of the Galaxy will arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014. Stay tuned for updates.

Not sure I see Zoe as the most dangerous woman in the galaxy? She was pretty badass in Colombiana but she's so small and skinny. Think I'd rather see a woman like Paula Patton.

I see what you mean...and I love me some Paula Patton...but Zoe has the acrobatic skills and I think honestly, more acting chops(but maybe Patton just hasn't got the right role yet, she's definitely 100x more endearing than Zoe)

I liked PP a lot in MI4. She just needs a chance to kick a little more ass.

Good casting choice, but I pictured the character was supposed to be more strong looking, not judging or complaining I think this is a good choice Zoe is a great actress. The casting choice I have been anticipating is Nova and who will voice Rocket Racoon.

Really went out on a limb there didn't you Gunn? haha. Jk, he's been brave in most of his choices so far (and Marvel brave in choosing him).
