Earlier this year, Liam Neeson and Felicity Jones joined the cast of A Monster Calls, an adaptation of the children's fantasy novel by Patrick Ness from director Juan Antonio Bayona. Now THR pegs two more cast members with Sigourney Weaver and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star Toby Kebbell joining the story about a young boy dealing with his mother's debilitating illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales. Neeson is playing the titular monsters who befriends the boy and tells him stories, but the two new cast members will be playing human characters.
Weaver will be playing the young boy's no-nonsense grandmother while Kebbell will play his father, who has a history of not being there for the boy. And now we know that Jones will be playing the boy's mother. This sounds like a great fantasy with a strong emotional core, and we're very interested to see what Bayona can do with this unique tale. Focus Features, working with River Road Entertainment, Participant Media and Lionsgate International, has already set the movie for an October 14th, 2016 release in the United States. We'll definitely be keeping our eye on this one.

My sixth graders read it last year because of your article. We all loved it and devoured it in two days. Can't wait to introduce it to this years class.
