Angelina Jolie Intends to Quit Acting Entirely to Focus on Directing

When it was reported that Angelina Jolie's next project would see her directing husband Brad Pitt in an intimate drama called By the Sea (see first look photos here), I mentioned that the actress seemed anxious to spend more time behind the camera than in front of it (unless it's in her own projects), and I wouldn't be surprised to see acting take a backseat in her career. Well, that's exactly what will happen eventually as Jolie had an interview with Du Jour Magazine (via JoBlo) and said that she "absolutely" intends to give up the acting side of things entirely in order to concentrate on just being a full-time director instead. Jolie explained, "I’ve never been comfortable as an actor; I’ve never loved being in front of the camera. I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier.” Considering how quickly Jolie is moving from project to project as a filmmaker, we're pretty sure a directing career by itself isn't out of the question. However, I'm willing to bet that she would still star in her own films if it helped to get a studio to greenlight the project. But since she doesn't have any future projects lined up outside of her own work as a director or producer, she might be done starring in other people's movies for awhile. Jolie's sophomore directing effort, Unbroken, arrives next month. Thoughts?

Sounds like it's still a possibility but not a definite plan yet. If she continues to prove herself, she'll get what she wants.

It makes sense, now why she was so willing to criticize the president recently. She has been planning this shift for a while.

Translation: Angelina doesn't want to get to the point where she's only offered "Mother" roles....or even worse, "Grandmother" roles. That's cool. Everyone needs to evolve at some point. She certainly has enough money. Why not try her hand behind the camera instead of in front of it?
