At 7AM Pacific time this morning, Disney/Lucasfilm unveiled the very highly anticipated first teaser trailer for the new Star Wars movie directed by J.J. Abrams. Die-hard geeks waking up too early after eating a massive Thanksgiving meal lead to a wonderful selection of hilarious, goofy, smile-inducing tweets on top of all the compliments and serious discussion about the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We've collected a few of our favorite tweets, including one amazing Photoshop (seen above) of the crazy new Sith lightsaber, for your amusement. So take a look, laugh, smile, and share your Star Wars jokes with us.
Let's dive right in starting with this perfect opening rant about waking up early just to see this teaser trailer:
That awkward moment when you thought #TheForceAwakens was about you getting out of bed.

I'm quite looking forward to this 4th Star Wars film.
— Jamie McKelvie (@McKelvie) November 28, 2014
Weird how the trailer fails to mention the whole movie is about getting Chewbacca home for Life Day.

"This party… is OVER." And then it's just Mace Windu standing there all half-robot and shit. #TheForceAwakens
— Max Nicholson (@Max_Nicholson) November 28, 2014
Reassuring to know that TIE Fighters still can't shoot for shit. #TheForceAwakens

Look, I'm really excited for the new Star Wars movie too, but those new lightsabers are kind of overkill. pic.twitter.com/Xn7A4eMpT8

Please let's not call it a trident-lightsaber but a cruciform-lightsaber - I've already pitched 3 theological think pieces about this.

Underwhelmed by #TheForceAwakens trailer. To me, Star Wars isn't truly Star Wars without Harvey Korman and Bea Arthur.

The only big thing I didn’t like about the SW teaser was that the full movie didn’t start when I frantically threw my wallet at the screen.

I hope Kanye West has a cameo in #TheForceAwakens as Greedo

Right now, THE FORCE AWAKENS looks like it will be the greatest sci-fi/adventure movie since GREEN LANTERN. cc @jhoffman

If you play the Star Wars and Jurassic World trailers simultaneously you get an exclusive url for the secret new Indiana Jones teaser

Here's an interesting set of tweets to end with that make me smile much more than they make me laugh:
Right after the voiceover asks, "have you felt it?," I swear I hear a probe droid sound just like in Empire.
— Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) November 28, 2014
Seriously, the best part of the teaser is the bad guy pushing wee little twigs out of the way before striking an a Evil Bad Guy Pose.
— Bill Mudron (@mudron) November 28, 2014
I think my favorite thing in the new Star Wars trailer is the noise the speeder makes as Daisy Ridley trails away on it.

Jokes about any lens flares and J.J. Abrams are old and tired. And we've already made fun of "The Force Awakens" title (check out this hilarious teaser trailer with Yoda) so it's fun to see some different tweets that make us laugh. As much as I take this job, and the movies I love, very seriously - I do enjoy a good chuckle at the expense of geeks going crazy (even when that's me). These Star Wars tweets are the perfect mix of absurd fandom and cinematic appreciation, poking fun at the way we're stupid excited for a bit of footage, while actually still being excited by that footage. It is the perfect tease, and I'm so glad that so many people joined in the discussion this morning. Even though it is Thanksgiving vacation. Find any other fun tweets?

I only counted one tiny lens flare in the trailer. That's a plus.

What gets to me is the fact that it's not even on a set where the camera may (inadvertently or otherwise) stray into some light source pointing that direction (like, say an Enterprise bridge set), but a completely CGI scene "chasing" the Falcon into the sun.

Haha. I found and posted that lightsaber photo in the trailer comments earlier. It's hilarious. I still like the look of it though.

I'm still trying to figure out why people are complaining about the lightsaber... are you kidding me, that thing is BAD ASS!!!! Look at that intense blade!!! And the little side sabers are cool as shit. The purpose of them?? Who gives a shit!! They are awesome. After watching this trailer a couple dozen times I see the whole sword and it reminds me of one of those big ass knight swords from Game of Thrones!! My friend thinks the dude talking sounds like Benedict Cumberbatch... here's hoping he is a surprise character and the sith we see!! That would be TITS!!! THANK YOU DISNEY AND THANK YOU JJ!!!!!
