'Boyz N the Hood' Director to Re-Write and Direct Tupac Shakur Biopic

After director Antoine Fuqua departed a biopic about the late rapper Tupac Shakur in 2011, a few months later there were rumblings that Boyz N the Hood and Poetic Justice director John Singleton would take on the project. It's been over two and a half years now, and we've yet to see the biopic move forward, but now it sounds like it's finally becoming a reality. Deadline has word that Singleton has officially signed on to re-write, produce and direct the film for Morgan Creek Films and Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, who are co-financing the film, with an eye towards finally shooting this summer. But who will play Tupac Shakur?
Well, it's hard to say what kind of star Singleton will go for, but since he worked with Shakur on his 1993 film with Poetic Justice, he should have a good sense as to who would be perfect for the role. The project is also a bit personal for Singleton since he tells Deadline, "Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with. His passing deeply affected my life.. As well as countless people in this world. His life story is as important to my generation.” My vote would go to John Boyega (Attack the Block), but Chadwick Boseman (42) could pull it off as well. Singleton could very well go with an unknown though too. Thoughts?
Eminem should play Tupac

Well I hope they leave the ending open or they'll look pretty dumb when he comes back.

Where did the rumor start that he's not actually dead?

Hopefully Singleton ups his game to match the brilliance of his work in the early 90's. I think this could be really good.

Singleton is pretty great. He and Craig Brewer should team up!
