Back in the spring, Star Trek lead Chris Pine was slated to star in Disney's Coast Guard drama The Finest Hours with the studio's Million Dollar Arm director Craig Gillespie at the helm. Now Pine has a co-star as Deadline reports Gone Baby Gone and Ocean's Eleven franchise star Casey Affleck is in talks for a pivotal role in the story set back in 1952 and based on the non-fiction book of the same name about how two oil tankers were split in two, dumping all 84 of their crew members into the swirling sea, caught in the middle of a nor'easter, a macro-scale storm along the upper East Coast of the US and Atlantic Canada. Read on!
However, it's not clear if Affleck will be getting rescued or doing the saving, though it seems like he's suited for a role as one of the heroes. Affleck is usually pretty picky about his roles, taking on lower profile projects (with the exception of ParaNorman and Tower Heist in the past few years), so this must have a pretty good script. Otherwise, we'll see him pop up in Interstellar later this year, and again next year as part of an impressive ensemble cast in Triple Nine. We're also still waiting to see if that Boston Strangler thriller ever gets off the ground or if his baseball drama about Josh Hamilton comes together.

He's got the skills but I find coast guard films a little boring.
