Chris Hemsworth to Lead 'The Huntsman' Prequel for April 2016
by Ethan Anderton
July 31, 2014
Last month came word that a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman was in the works with Frank Darabont behind the camera, but without Kristen Stewart in front of it. Instead, the follow-up at Universal Pictures was going to focus solely on Chris Hemsworth as the huntsman. Now we have confirmation from a press release by the studio that Darabont will definitely direct the film, simply titled The Huntsman, and the film will arrive on April 22nd, 2016. The film will be a prequel revealing "how the fates of two characters, The Huntsman Eric and Ravenna, intersected before they met Snow White." So there you go.
Now we know why it was previously said that Charlize Theron might return, despite her fate in the original 2012 fantasy. We're not sure of any specifics regarding the story, but the current script was rewritten by Darabont himself with previous drafts by Craig Mazin (The Hangover III, Identity Thief) and Evan Spiliotopoulos (Hercules). Producer Joe Roth (Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland) is on board again, and we'll see if the audience that loves Hemsworth in the Marvel cinematic universe as Thor, the god of thunder, will turn out for him in this fantasy prequel.

I know he played the same character in whatever the last POS was called, but...typecast.
