Dimension Films Back to Developing 'Halloween: The Next Chapter'

Halloween

Over two years ago, Halloween 3D was meant to be the next installment in the horror remake franchise that had been directed by Rob Zombie. But Dimension Films pulled it from their future release calendar, and the film was left hanging in the balance. My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry filmmakers Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier were supposed to write the script, but after the film was pulled from the release calendar, there were rumblings that Platinum Dunes was going to take a crack at Michael Myers. Thankfully, that's not the case, and there's a new attempt to keep the slasher alive in Halloween: The Next Chapter.

Schmoes Know acknowledges there were some rumblings from Scout-Taylor Compton back in April that she was going to reprise her role as the new Laurie Strode from Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween and the sequel that followed. But now they've learned that Dimension has scrapped whatever direction they were going to take before and are looking to get a new script completed by next fall. They're not rebooting the franchise, as it will just continue after the events of Halloween II, though no one is sure what that means.

If we make assumptions about the title, the sequel will likely follow someone other than Laurie Strode, meaning we'll probably get Halloween sequels more like Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street with little to no ties to the main characters from the early films. There's a chance it might take a direction akin to Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, which focused on the killer going after his niece, Laurie Strode's daughter, played by Danielle Harris (who actually had a role as an adult in the remake franchise, though not as the same character). No matter what happens, we just hope Rob Zombie won't be back to taint this iconic horror slasher any further than he already has. Thoughts?

UPDATE: The official Facebook page for the Halloween franchise has addressed this rumor saying, "We’ve been getting a lot of e-mails/tweets/Facebook messages lately about a project called Halloween: The Next Chapter. It seems that’s the latest buzz surrounding the next Halloween film and again it’s just not true. As we stated before, a new installment of Halloween is indeed in on track and moving forward and we are currently developing a script, to finally bring Michael back to the theaters!" Stay tuned to find out more.

Ugh. No thanks. Let Michael rest for at least another three years before thinking about bringing him back to the big screen.

I doubt it can be any worse than Rob Zombie's Halloween 2.

Unless John C wants to do one (even tho these days that doesn't say much either) I say just let it rest. Rob Z really raped these classics with his BS already. No one will ever top the originals anyways even tho i do have to say that i did enjoy the Evil Dead remake.

I thought they Zombie ones were good. They were done in a different style and I don't consider that a fault.

Well written. Agree - we had to push had to get him to install trick or treaters into the sequel, which he did, even adding a costume party. While I love any film that involves MM, Zombie just got carried away with the audio... it was messy. We need a smart film, Istarted writing a script where Myers returns at the Halloween Parade in Manhattan, he has an encounter against Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and Flash on a side street - funny shi%.
