If you frequent the internet enough, then you might already know about the phenomenon of men aged 13 to 30 who are obsessed with the Hasbro toy line and animated TV series "My Little Pony." This group of males has been dubbed "Bronies" and now they're getting the spotlight at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month in the form of A Brony Tale, a documentary that looks at the perplexing, pop culture niche which has a big enough following to warrant its own convention, BronyCon. Complete with interviews with various Bronies, this looks like a truly eye-opening documentary that should illicit some chuckles. Watch it!
Here's the trailer for Brent Hodge's documentary A Brony Tale from Deadline:
Born of internet mecca 4chan, the “Brony” phenomenon is a flourishing community of adult, mostly straight, male fans of the children’s cartoon "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." This funny and illuminating documentary surveys the members of this surprising subculture, framed by the journey of Ashleigh Ball, one of the show’s voice actors, embracing her unexpected fan base while making an appearance at the annual BronyCon convention. A Brony Tale is written and directed by Brent Hodge and premieres at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival on April 26th, but no official release date has been set just yet.
