Dwayne Johnson in Surprisingly Somber 'San Andreas' First Trailer

"I cannot emphasize this enough. You need to get out, and I mean now." California crumbles in the first teaser trailer for San Andreas, the earthquake action thriller starring Dwayne Johnson. Now obviously a disaster of this scale wouldn't be something to be excited about, but we're surprised that a disaster flick like this paints such a somber portrait of the movie, especially since it's coming from director Brad Peyton of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. But it's actually a little refreshing to have a teaser trailer that features massive destruction, and doesn't just go for the big, fun action angle. But will the movie be good? Watch!
Here's the first trailer for Brad Peyton's San Andreas from Warner Bros. Pictures:
San Andreas is directed by Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) and written by Allan Loeb (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Carlton Cuse (executive producer and writer of "Lost"), Chad & Carey Hayes (The Conjuring), Jeremy Passmore (Red Dawn) and Andre Fabrizio (Vice). Set in the aftermath of a devastating California earthquake, the movie follows a helicopter pilot (Dwayne Johnson) and his ex-wife (Carla Gugino) as they struggle to leave Los Angeles in order to retrieve their daughter (Alexandra Daddario) from San Francisco. Warner Bros. Pictures releases the film on May 29th, 2015 next summer.

The only difference between this trailer and other destruction movie trailers is the cheesy somber music..

I definitely like the feel the music gives it. Not that it matters to me since I'm great at suspending my disbelief but I wonder if the science of this is true? What scale of an earthquake would cause tremors over 2500 miles away? Just curious.

Yes, if the fault lines were separating, they would feel tremors on the east coast cause they are attached to the tectonic plate that the USA sits on ends on the west coast right around LA and San fransico. It wouldnt be enough to destroy buildings but the earth would def move.

Thanks. I mean I figured they'd feel a tremor. (I remember feeling a tremor in Toronto of a small earthquake near Montreal). But it seems like Paul Giamatti's character is telling people on the east coast to "get out" so it sounds like he expects it to do damage. That's what I was wondering, how big an earthquake it would have to be to do damage at that distance.

I like what I see, its an earthquake movie. I think it looks like fun, go to a 21+ showing, big screen, with a drink in my hand and enjoy.

That music was very, very creepy and haunting, certainly makes this film look great, but the ultimate question is will it actually be a great film? I hope so. I like Dwayne Johnson, he's always been able to deliver good performances even when put into less-than-stellar movies (like Be Cool and Pain & Gain). Looks like an entertaining film at the very least with a strong cast and crew backing it (and the effects look incredible).

DAVIDPD I love Dante's Peak!* I've been to Wallace a few times (the filming location) and they a lot of memorabilia still around from the production. This San Andreas film looks like it will have some of the same "family" intensity DP had. *Although the driving the Forest Service truck through the lava scene always makes me mad...that scene destroys my suspension of disbelief for the rest of the movie.

I thought this was not very bad. I haven't seen scientists predicting the earthquake and nobody believing them, or arrogant mayors ignoring the warnings because they don't want to cancel their re-election party. So not too much cliches in this trailer. Besides the helicopter flying between collapsing buildings. The effects look good, Johnson is a powerful lead, Giamatti can add some depth. So I am giving this a green flag for now. Hope the second trailer will not dissapoint.

Sorry but with a chance of a large earthquake hitting Cali any moment i have really no interest in seeing this predictable crap fest. However one thing, I thought the Cg looks better than in recent trailers just in general.
