Pitch Perfect

After producing and starring in the surprising a cappella hit Pitch Perfect, actress Elizabeth Banks will get behind the camera for the first time as director of the sequel Universal is planning to release sometime in 2015. THR has word that Banks will again produce and have a supporting role in the musical sequel. As of now, there aren't any story details as to where the sequel might venture, but Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are expected to return. The end of the first film saw the Barden Bellas winning the collegiate a cappella championships and embarking on yet another year, but hopefully the sequel won't be just a retread.

It's hard to say what needs to be done to make the sequel a little different from the first film without losing the charm of what made it great to begin with. Kendrick and Wilson are definitely integral to make it work, but the music and a cappella sequences were extremely popular, especially in a soundtrack capacity. The original film's writer, Kay Cannon, will be back to script the sequel, so we hope she has a good idea. Cool?
