Expect the 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Trailer with 'The Hobbit'

Normally it's not worth reporting when the first trailer for a movie will arrive, but when that trailer is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, everyone is anxious to find out when we'll get the first glimpse of the next chapter in the iconic Star Wars saga. There have been rumblings that the trailer will show up before the end of the year, and that's been supported by the fact that John Williams has already been in the recording studio working on music for the trailer itself. Now a report comes from Star Wars 7 News saying that the teaser trailer will be attached to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies next month. More below!
The first source in this matter isn't very reliable since it comes from a local theater manager. Anyone could easily just make that up to be a rumor, but there was also a curious update on Twitter that has since been deleted. The tweet in question came from an account that had been around since March 2012, so it wasn't a dummy account created just to stir up trouble, but the account has also been deleted now. That's probably because it said, "Had a talk from Thomas Gormley today, when asked about the teaser trailer for Star Wars VII he said, “You might wanna go see The Hobbit.”
For those who don't know, Thomas Gormley is the first assistant director on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and he's worked on multiple films for director J.J. Abrams. While it stands to reason that the first assistant director wouldn't really be in the know when it comes to the marketing plans for the film, it seems like a pretty weird way to just start an unsubstantiated rumor. And when you think about it, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the best movie to attach the trailer to if it's coming this year.
The only other somewhat logical choice for the trailer premiere would be Into the Woods, because that's Disney's big holiday release, but it wouldn't hit the same audience. It could help Disney get more people to see the big screen musical, but the audience crossover with The Hobbit crowd is probably more appealing. And if the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer is attached too as we've heard recently, it could be a fun night at the movies with teases of some big films to come. Excited?
UPDATE: SlashFilm says the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens may end up playing on The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, but it will likely debut elsewhere before then. It could be with "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." since Disney had their reveal of The Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer spoiled, or maybe just a big debut online, but expect the trailer in the next two or three weeks for sure.

How about no! A year and a year and a half before either of these movies comes out. Are you trying to drive us insane???

For a while the long lead time was a trend for teasers. Spidey 3 had a teaser the June before its May release. I think Terminator 3 had a teaser a year ahead of time. Then for a while it seemed like they got away from that and initial teasers/trailers would hit like 6-8 months beforehand. But I kind of like giving these huge 'event films' the grandiose preamble that they kind of deserve. A Star Wars teaser a full year ahead? Sign me up. A Batman v Superman teaser a year and 4 months ahead? Sign me up even more.

Not quite a year and a half...."only" one year.

Im pretty sure, knowing JJ, he prolly created a custom teaser (memeber super 8?) and maybe w some new JW music? I read somewhere that it was said Williams just recorded some new SW music. Would all make sense and why not tease early on without showing really anything from the movie? I wouldn't mind. I suppose now i have to go see the Hobbit just for that!

I hope we get like a 20 second "speeder bike" like scene then roll title card with music blaring at 11. That would make every one melt.

Yes! Let the hype begin. Seeing a Star Wars AND Batman v Superman trailer BOTH in front of the final Middle-Earth film? That's like, nerd heaven.

Imagine the uproar if it was just a 180 turnaround reveal of Jar Jar's head, and he says "im baaaack"....queue title card.

I would shoot the movie screen if that happened. Or at least throw my half-gallon soda at it.

I'm always a sucker for a great teaser. Not a trailer mind you, but a teaser. I can't wait to see what JJ has cooked up.

Yep. Can't wait for teaser, but will attempt to avoid trailers. Worked pretty well for me re: prequels.

I was going to see the Hobbit 3 anyway, but mostly out of a sense of obligation since I saw the first 2. Now I really really WANT to see it just to get a glimpse of the new STAR motherfucking WARS trailer!!!!
