Extended 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Trailer is So Good It's Criminal

"I look around me and you know what I see? Losers." Following the unveiling of 17 minutes of footage in an extended IMAX preview of Guardians of the Galaxy tonight, Marvel has debuted an extended trailer for the film. Taking a cue from the "Cherry Bomb" infused TV spot, this trailer also features the classic rock tune from The Runaways, in a spectacularly edited tease for the film coming in under a month. There's tons more footage of Rocket Raccoon, and Bradley Cooper is knocking it out of the park while Chris Pratt seems like the perfect makeshift Han Solo as Star-Lord. That last scene is hilarious. Can't wait for this flick.
Here's the new extended trailer for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy from Fandango:
Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn (Slither, Super). Brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand. The Marvel Studios film arrives in theaters August 1st, 2014.

I have gone from incredibly skeptical to almost totally on board from the first trailer to now. I hope this one does well.

I didn't see it and will probably totally agree with you. Just be careful saying it's better than SW, haha....

Yea considering weve got a JJ abrams SW coming out in under two years you should probably hold off making that call.

No way, Star Wars is old hat. It sucks too. I like JJ Abrams, but you can polish a turd, and it's still a turd.
BarryTheMuslim on Jul 8, 2014

A turd? Star Wars is overrated but it was still groundbreaking and still a damn fine trilogy. You can't compare any of the prequels to the fine work JJ abrams has done. His modern SW is going to be amazing, just you watch.
Jon Odishaw on Jul 8, 2014

what Barry means is that it's old hat to THIS generation . of spoiled and served kids ... in the 70's ? it was GREAT . It is very posssible that JJ sees GOTG as this gen's version of SW . just the rebel count is MUCH lower ...like 5 ...

They are doing such a good job finding the right directors for these types of movies in the last five years. I love it. Too many sequels, too many reboots. But god fucking damnit I love modern cinema

Okay, I think that trailer won me over. Kickass editing in the trailer, too, and wise decision to show an extended version of the quibble scene at the end; brings the pace of the humor better across. And I didn't Ron Perlman was in this--sweet.

Saw the 17 minutes of footage from a special screening in IMAX 3d earlier today and all I've got to say is I will be there opening night. First off, I haven't seen a film in 3d since Clash of the Titans, because IMO its not that great of a "gimmick," Well GOTG has proved me wrong. The 3d was amazing. Second, they nailed the humor. Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket Racoon was superb. The ensemble cast all worked well together in the scenes shown. Lastly, the direction and visual effects were top notch. There are hints of James Gunn's signature from films like slither and Super sprinkled here and there which is a nice touch. The VFX... Whoa! One last thing, I dragged my girlfriend with me to the screening, and she did not want to go because she was not interested in the film from the trailers, after seeing the footage she leans over and says to me, wow that was really cool!!

Very happy you came here to give a review on that preview. I wanted to go see it but was too busy. Thanks for the tip dude and I'm stoked to hear your stellar review (especially coming from a person (your gf) who had no intention or interest in seeing it to begin with)!

Don't drag us other Europeans into this, because we love the look and feel of this movie 😉

We can have both "childish" and "smart" sci-fi, nothing wrong with that. By your accounts Star Wars would be considered "childish" and Cloud Atlas "Smart, and which one of those did okay at the box office around the world 😉 I don't see the "childish" aspect of GotG, I see the adventure aspect of it, but then again I'm the kind of person that goes to movies wanting to be entertained and not taught a lesson. If I want "smart", I'd rather watch a documentary 🙂 We can agree to disagree, and when the movie comes out we will see if it breaks even or not, me I'm guessing it will do that and then some 🙂
Enola on Jul 8, 2014
28
Off course we can disagree but and maybe you are seeing it in a right way and maybe I am to old for colord beings in movies and populated galaxies with stormtroopers and sith Lords. I think I outgrown that kind of movies...

I am European and I have watched the movie. And guess what? It's unbelievable funny and can be that for Europeans as well ... Of course, I was looking for fun, wasn't really expecting to see some of Ingmar Bergman's stuff...

How so? I mean it seems the humor presented is universal.
Xerxexx on Jul 8, 2014
31
we are not familiar with the Guardians of the galaxy, it looks for me childish. But your right humor is universal but I don't think this will not be a big movie for us!
Avi on Jul 8, 2014

Most Americans aren't familiar with Guardians either, I had never heard of them before this movie was announced...but familiarity with it doesn't keep me from thinking it looks good....but as you said, maybe Europeans are different....

There are enormous cultural differences between Europe and America but that is not the point of this conversation.

There are culture differences between European countries !!! Don't label me under your banner, though I consider myself British before even considering myself European.

Ummm...yeah, I guess, I don't really follow football to care about childish jibes. None the less if we must piss up a wall then at least the UK has the best armed forces in Europe and are not prone to losing.

Well, as far as I've noticed, the chief difference is that alot of Europeans are not fans of bathing. Other than that, most of the rest is pretty much the same.

Really pleased that this is being well received though I haven't watched the trailer as I fear that there might be too many iconic images that I'll then be looking for within the film. I'm still content with the line "watch a bunch of A-holes" from the very first trailer. That was more than enough to carry me through to the opening night. I have high hopes for this and really hope that it doesn't disappoint.

The 17 minute trailer is probably the length of the entertainment value of the feature length film. The rest is just more CGI, big epic explosions, senseless violence, poor acting, silly dialogue, and dull plot lines. It will be a big hit with the younger generation and comic book fans. Typical Hollywood blockbusters.

Wow this is the most polite discussion I have ever read on a movie site forum. This is been my main, pretty much only movie news site for the pas 5 years I Have always enjoyed reading the comments but never adding to the them. But had to log in just to mention that. GoTG looks great! After they did CA:TFA right (to me at least) I had faith that when they had a difficult property to adapt. They would take the care and attention to make sure it was a success. Unfortunately Steven Write is a casualty to it this time.
