In what will make a dozen films in the franchise since The Amityville Horror first hit theaters 35 years ago, the first trailer for Amityville: The Awakening has arrived. Since the reboot of the horror series back in 2005 starring Ryan Reynolds, there have been some straight-to-DVD sequels, but now the residential terror is heading back to theaters just after the New Year (a dumping ground for bad horror) thanks to Dimension Films. This time, Jennifer Jason Leigh is the matriarch of a family, including teen Bella Thorne and her bed-ridden, sick brother Cameron Monaghan, and they feel the evil in the house.
Here's the first trailer for Franck Khalfoun's Amityville: The Awakening, originally from Yahoo:
The Amityville: Awakening is written and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac, P2). Jennifer Jason Leigh plays the single mother of three children, all settling into the infamous Suffolk County home which has seen so much horror before. This time, the evil inside 112 Ocean Avenue begins to influence Belle (Bella Thorne), an angst-ridden high school student, and James (Cameron Monaghan), her sick, bed-ridden brother. Kurtwood Smith also stars in the film which Dimension Films releases on January 2nd, 2015 next year.

I laughed so hard at "Inspired by true events." Kurtwood Smith deserves better. Not this tripe.
