One of the films that just didn't fit into my schedule at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival was the vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows. Now if you have vampire fatigue like I do, the premise alone might have you rolling your eyes, but the indie comedy features Jemaine Clement ("Flight of the Conchords") as part of a group of vampire friends who share an apartment in New Zealand. Do we have your attention now? If not, the trailer has arrived, and it makes me so mad that I missed out on seeing this film before everyone else. It looks hilarious, and makes me wish this was an ongoing series. Watch the trailer!
First trailer for Taika Waititi & Jemaine Clement's What We Do in the Shadows (via Badass Digest):
Viago (379 years old), Deacon (183 years old), Vladislav (862 years old), and Peter (8,000 years old) are vampires who have chosen to share a flat in Wellington, New Zealand. Unfortunately for them, it’s hard to make new friends due to their constant thirst for blood. Without any mortal chums left to invite them in to all of the hip establishments around town, they’ve lost touch with the current social scene, but hope to put aside their differences as roommates and adapt to modern society. What We Do in the Shadows stars Jemaine Clement ("Flight of the Conchords"), who also co-wrote and directed the film with Taika Waititi. The film hits New Zealand this summer, premiered at Sundance, but has no US release date yet. Funny?

This reminds me a little of the wonderfully ridiculous deadpan mockumentary of meta-Godzilla-esqueness that is Big Man Japan.

I almost just rolled my eyes and moved on, but I'm glad I didn't. Looks pretty good.

That scene walking down the road looking for a bar is right around the corner from my work. I'll be more careful around there in future.....
