For Some Odd Reason 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' Will Get a Sequel

About 12 years after My Big Fat Greek Wedding became one of the biggest independent films to reign at the box office, Gold Circle and HBO feel the time is right for a sequel. Nia Vardalos who wrote and starred in the original film is back in the same capacity for the sequel that will also see John Corbett returning as her groom. And of course, everyone who brought the lively and extremely Greek Portokalos family to life will be back as well. But where will the story go? We've already had the wedding, and there was a TV series that attempted to cash in on the film's success and lasted only 7 episodes, so why does the story need more?
Well, Vardalos was already counting on these questions and some naysaying, and she told Deadline, "Now that I’m experiencing motherhood, I’m ready to write the next chapter of my family story. Of course a few jaded folks in the press corps will claim I ran out of money or just want to kiss John Corbett again. One of these things is true.” So maybe we'll get My Big Fat Greek Marriage, or My Big Fat Greek Children, though the latter seems pretty insulting. Will all the audiences who turned out for My Big Fat Greek Wedding so long ago be hungry for more? We'll have to wait and see.
Some odd reason = The first one made a shitload of cash.

Yeah, this title makes no sense. The first movie was a huge surprise smash at the box office. I think one reason, you know the main reason movies get made, is pretty obvious.

It's been 12 years. It would have made more sense for this movie to happen shortly after. That's why it seems odd.

Absolutely correct, Ethan. Instead of a sequel film, they attempted a TV series, minus John Corbett, who was probably committed to other projects. It bombed as a series which probably made the movie studio think twice about green lighting a second film, until now.

Didn't this already get a sequel?

Hell why not. MBFGW was delightful, so if its written well it will be interesting to see where this couple ended up.

My Big Fat Greek Divorce?

Awesome headline again, Ethan. We would've also accepted "Since No One Asked For It, My Big Fat Greek Wedding Will Get A Sequel".
