'Forrest Gump' Getting IMAX Release for 20th Anniversary This Fall
Briefly: It turns out that Ghostbusters won't be the only film getting re-released in theaters for a special anniversary. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Best Picture winner Forrest Gump if you're looking to feel old. So ERC Box Office revealed that Paramount Pictures wants everyone to see Tom Hanks run across the country on the biggest screen possible, so it will hit IMAX theaters on September 5th this fall. It's not clear if the film will exclusively be available on IMAX screens, but that could be enough of a gimmick to get audiences back in theaters and pay a big ticket price to see it again, or maybe for the first time. Though at this point it's played on TNT a billion times, so it's almost impossible to have missed it.

Yes! I was born in 1992, so naturally I grew up on a lot of 80s and 90s classics, and REALLY got crazy about movies of all sorts around the turn of the new millennium. But there are a lot of classic 90s films I've always dreamed of seeing in theaters, but had little hope. But luckily The Lion King and Jurassic Park were re-released to theaters. Heck, I was even glad to re-visit The Phantom Menace in theaters(I saw it when I was 7 going on 8 and loved it) And now Forrest Gump is confirmed for a re-release, and in the best format on the planet no less. If Cameron DOES end up re-releasing T2 in 3D, then the theatrical revival of my favorite films from my childhood would be complete.
