Fox Searchlight Created a LEGO Version of 'Grand Budapest Hotel'
Though Fox Searchlight has already release The Grand Budapest Hotel in theaters, the film is poised to hit Blu-Ray & DVD next week on June 17th. Normally these occasions aren't worth writing about, but in order to celebrate the release of the Wes Anderson comedy, the studio commissioned a huge LEGO version of the title hotel. Ryan Ziegelbauer and a team of eight builders put the model together, and as the featurette below indicates, they spent 575 hours building and designing the replica. It's composed of more than 50,000 certified LEGO bricks from collectors and wholesalers from Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Germany, Italy and 14 different states in the U.S. Now we just wish they would sell this in stores. Watch!
Here's the featurette on the LEGO version of The Grand Budapest Hotel from Fox Searchlight:
The Grand Budapest Hotel is written and directed by Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom, Rushmore) and tells of a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars and his friendship with a young employee who becomes his trusted protégé. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune and the slow and then sudden upheavals that transformed Europe during the first half of the 20th century. Fox Searchlight released The Grand Budapest Hotel in theaters on March 7th and it hits Blu-Ray & DVD on June 17th.
Just rewatched THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. Wow! What a film. Really. Lego is really on a role with their pop culture infiltration. Shame about their insistence on making Ninjago a thing.
