Fox's Young Adult Sci-Fi 'The Maze Runner' Gets an IMAX Release
by Ethan Anderton
August 26, 2014
In a little over three weeks, 20th Century Fox brings their hopeful new young adult sci-fi franchise to the big screen in the form of The Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball and based on James Dashner's novel of the same name. If all goes well at the box office, the sequel The Scorch Trials will shoot later this year (we already saw some concept art at Comic-Con this summer). And to help boost the box office draw, Fox has just announced that the film will hit IMAX screens on September 19th, right along with the release in standard theaters. And if you're not in the US, it'll hit IMAX screens around the world on September 11th.

No reason at all that this should be in IMAX... But then again most movies are 3D now even though there's nothing 3D about them..

From what I heard, there's some gorgeous cinematography, and the sound is very immersive in a regular theater, so I would say that it's probably a great idea to have a limited IMAX release.

It's simply a cash grab. Business decision. No worries though. If you don't want to see it in IMAX or 3D, no one will force you.

My local theater has not an IMAX cinema, but it does have 4D! LOL. So bad. It's like being held by a sneezing giant.
