Just last week we learned that Jason Statham would return in a sequel to The Mechanic, but when it came to The Transporter series, the British action star would not be back for a fourth round. Instead, The Transporter 4 was going to be a prequel looking at the origins of Frank Martin, and if all went well, that would lead to a fifth and sixth film in the series following the earlier years of the title protagonist. Now we know who will replace Jason Statham in the lead role as Variety reports Ed Skrein, who stars on the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones," has assumed the role after an extensive search was conducted. More below!

EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert says, "“We searched everywhere to find a fresh face who had the potential to become an action movie star and we’ve found the right match with Ed Skrein, who’s not only a great actor but also has enough charisma and physical stamina to play Frank Martin with brio.” If you don't know Skrein by name, on "Game of Thrones" he played Daario Naharis, one of the leaders in Daenerys Targaryen's army and a potential love interest. However, in between the third season and the forthcoming fourth season, Skrein has been replaced by Michiel Huisman, and now we know why.

As for the film itself, the prequels are said to give more depth to the character of Frank Martin. That seems counter intuitive since part of the fun with The Transporter was that Martin was kind of a blank slate just willing to do what it takes to get the job done. These new films will explore uncharted territory with the character like Martin’s relationship with his father, a role that will be played by a yet to be cast but well-known talent. Oh, and it will be Brick Mansions director Camille Delamarre at the helm for this new series of films. Is there a chance these will be good? What do you think?

I hope they retain their European setting and feel, that gave it a lot of character compared to similar action series here in USA/Canada.

Doubtful. Brick Mansions was horrible. having seen the original French movie there's no doubt BM was bad. Not because of acting but how it was put together.
