Monsters: Dark Continent

In an attempt to cash in on the buzz surrounding the release of Godzilla this weekend, the sequel to director Gareth Edwards indie sci-fi flick Monsters has just unveiled a trailer showing off more of the expanded world. Monsters: Dark Continent focuses on another Infected Zone in the Middle East, and this time it looks like we're spending most of our time with a military unit in the area. What I really like is the grounded approach to how society is living as there are monsters all around the world. There's a shot of a dogfight facing what appears to be a small monster, and this might not be too bad of a sequel. Watch now!

Here's the trailer for Tom Green's Monsters: Dark Continent from IGN:

Monsters: Dark Continent is the sequel to Gareth Edwards' Monsters. Tom Green ("Misfits") makes his feature directorial debut with a script from Jay Basu. Johnny Harris (Welcome To The Punch), Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and Joe Dempsie ("Game Of Thrones") star in the film which moves the action to  another Infected Zone, a U.S. military-dominated Middle East, where a soldier is looking for his lost comrade. Vertigo Films has slated the sequel for release in the United Kingdom in September of 2014, but there's no indication of when it might make its way to the United States. Stay tuned for anymore updates.

huh, you mean Spring Breakers or the fact that a director who made the 1st movie isn't making the 2nd.... Alien vs Aliens ... all i gotta say

It was cool until they showed the monsters. The good thing about the original was the buildup of tension and suspense by not showing the monsters...

100% right you are... you only see the destruction the monsters left behind, it's not until the last 10 minutes you see them at the gas station and your like ' Holy Fuck, run"

they looked like deep sea creatures... hows that stupid.. you must think the monster from Super 8 was amazing... hahahaha

shane willett on May 15, 2014

Super 8 monster was a test, cuz it was bad, it looked like the 1st alien you see in men in black movie or something... I agree the monsters weren't original they looked like a octopus meets jellyfish.. so i can see when an animator creates something, it shows what they are referencing.. But they also looked a lot Chtuthlulu so that was cool ??? sorry you didn;t care for it

The bad thing about the first one was that it was called "Monsters" but hardly had any monsters in it.

Horrible.... how could Gareth Edwards allow this to happen... pure shit, a rap VO about sand bugs... this feels like its going to be a modern day Star Ship Troopers.... as soon as something original happens, money hungry producers who know nothing fuck up a good thing ...

Come on man.. just because he didnt like the film you have to get personal and de-evaluate a guy you dont know? Bad habit.

shane willett on May 15, 2014

28

No, it's sad when people act like they know cause they saw a bunch of movies or went to art school. I have worked on actual sets, I am currently working on a screenplay, it's not easy, but it is easy to talk shit about a movie.. it's funny how people who have little to no experience or the most experienced ...

29

I de-evaluate life? Haven't you watched the Cosmos?

shane willett on May 15, 2014

30

And that means what? That no one who hasn't made a movie can critique a movie? Your horse, its too high, get off it. The first one was OK. It is ok to dislike it.

36

movie looks good. the ghetto narration is AWFUL.

dan on May 15, 2014

37

the VO is fucking HILARIOUS. MONSTERS was magical because Edwards transcended the shoddy vfx, acting and plot by presenting his incredible talent as a one man show.
