Gina Carano Joins Jean-Claude Van Damme for 'Kickboxer' Reboot
After taking a surprising turn in Fast & Furious 6, mix martial artist turned actress Gina Carano will bring her acting skills into the fighting arena this time. THR reports Carano has joined the cast of Kickboxer, a reboot/remake of the original 1989 martial arts flick which just landed Jean-Claude Van Damme to return in a mentor role. This time the story follows Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi, a UFC welterweight champion), a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand, where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother's death at the hands of Tong Po (Dave Bautista). So what's Carano doing in the film? Read on!
Well, it turns out she may not do much fighting, since she's playing a fight promoter. But maybe she'll have a moment where she gets to show off her trademark toughness. If not, she's also rather beautiful, so she won't have to literally fight for my attention. Honestly, this flick didn't really have my attention until Jean-Claude Van Damme came on board. Mixing his presence with the use of real fighters in the major roles should make this a solid remake. Also, just to clarify, Stephen Fung is no longer directing the film, and it will be Into the Blue and Blue Crush director John Stockwell directing instead. Interested?

LOL. Carano is a great fighter but not a good actress. Good thing this won't rely on her acting prowess.

It's not a reboot. It's a remake. There's a difference.
