Adam Driver

It seems fortuitous that right now on the HBO series "Girls," the character played by Adam Driver just booked a big Broadway role that could change his life. Now Variety reports the real life actor has a role that will really launch his career. Driver is currently near closing a deal to play the villain in Star Wars: Episode VII, the follow-up to the classic original trilogy that concluded with Return of the Jedi. Though no details on the character are known, sources say the villain is in the same vein as the iconic Darth Vader. Driver has never had a role like this before, but he has a mysterious presence about him that's just perfect.

Driver was rumored back in January, and apparently the big hold-up in casting him was ensuring that his schedule for shooting "Girls" wouldn't interfere with Star Wars. However, it's interesting to note that it was just a fourth season of the HBO series that would have been an issue, but any other seasons, which implies that Driver will be around for multiple movies in this new trilogy. Director J.J. Abrams is supposed to start shooting in May, and more casting will likely come out of the woodwork soon, so we'll see if any of the countless other casting rumors come true, and if any original Star Wars cast members join too. Thoughts?

thanks for the unnecessary spoiler in the episode of girls. fuck.

Alex Williams on Feb 26, 2014

I could see that. Certainly has a look that could come across as "evil".

Wafffles on Feb 26, 2014

I don't know the guy but from the presence of the pic I think it's a good choice...

Avi on Feb 26, 2014

As long as he is nothing like his character in GIRLS.

Oh yeah and how about we get Zac Efron as a villain or Justin Bieber in a lead role! What a bunch of shit casting, Adam Driver you serious. I knew they were going to make this new Star Wars film the "Twilight" version of Star Wars. Younger and hip cast and a bunch of cheese filled in. Am close to boycotting this crap. J.J Abrams Lens Flare Wars, I'd rather take Lucas and Jar Jar Binks back anyday.

You're close to boycotting? You've just said some of the most negative shit I've heard anyone ever say about a movie that hasn't come out yet. Just boycott it already and leave us alone.

Jon Odishaw on Feb 26, 2014

"Younger and hip cast..." - it's 2014... we are the ones that are older and "un-hip". Need I remind you that Star Wars roles have always been filled with "young and hip," from the very beginning. You may not even be able to see this guys face when he's in makeup. Settle down there negative Nancy.

Hmm I'm not buying it, I prefer the villains to be a little older, unless he's one of the younger evil characters from the book folklore....

You must be referring to Jacen Solo - aka: Darth Caedus... of which Adam Driver certainly looks the part. However, I'll be very surprised if the character of Jacen Solo is actually in Episode VII.

I could care less about this new Star Wars film, but with Driver casted I might be interested. He's a talented actor

BryceH6 on Feb 26, 2014

What the fuck do people think? They just pick a name out of a hat? Obviously he auditioned with several other actors...then got called back along with a few of the others...then got called back with one of the others...then got cast. They obviously saw a lot of him and liked him better than anyone else. They know the role, not you. They know who would be good for it, not you.

Rick on Feb 26, 2014

He isn't playing a character in Girls and he is a very talented actor. People need to stop judging castings by how an actor looks. It isn't like you have some preconceived notion or there is some standard for the role THAT NO ONES KNOW A LICK ABOUT YET such as Lex Luthor. I feel like people only like castings if the actor in question is "hot" and apart of some huge fandom

Mickey Mouseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee with a lightsaber....can't wait

dawko on Feb 27, 2014

I like it.

I like the fact that this is a relatively unknown actor, This way I have no preconceived expectations.
