The Best of Me

If the work of sappy author Nicholas Sparks had a cinematic universe akin to that of Marvel Studios, fans would be freaking out that The Notebook supporting actor James Marsden is starring in the latest adaptation The Best of Me. But alas, they'll just go on accepting whatever sentimental, melodramatic story the author throws on shelves for movie studios to adapt for endless date nights. Michelle Monaghan also stars in the film which focuses on two former high school sweethearts who are reunited after 20 years. It's a funeral that brings them back home, and the tragedy just may be the spark that reignites their love. Watch!

Here's the first trailer for Michael Hoffman's The Best of Me, originally from Fandango:

The Best of Me is directed by Michael Hoffman (The Last Station, One Fine Day) and written by J. Millis Goodloe (Pride, The Age of Adaline), based on Nicholas Sparks' novel. Dawson and Amanda (James Marsden & Michelle Monaghan) are two former high school sweethearts reunited after 20 years apart when they return to their small town for the funeral of a beloved friend. Their bittersweet reunion reignites the love they've never forgotten, but soon they discover the forces that drove them apart twenty years ago live on, posing even more serious threats today. Relativity Media releases the film in theaters October 17th.
