Josh Gad & Kevin James Joining Adam Sandler for 'Pixels' Adventure

Way back in 2010, Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison production banner picked up the short film Pixels in order to adapt it into a big screen adventure focusing on a slew of 1980s video game characters like Space Invaders attacking New York City, leaving four champion arcade gamers are called back into action to save the world. At one time, Seth Gordon was eyeing the project as a directing gig with Sandler in the lead, but as we learned last summer, it will be Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Home Alone director Chris Columbus at the helm. Now we have word on two cast members who will be joining Sandler.
If you need a refresher, here's the original, cool short film Pixels from Patrick Jean:
Columbia Pictures is behind the film with a script from Sandler collaborator Tim Herlihy (Bedtime Stories, Big Daddy) and rewritten by Timothy Dowling (Role Models, This Means War). Now Deadline reports Kevin James and Josh Gad will be joining Sandler for the film, presumably as two of the other gamers. While we predicted that Sandler would bring his comedy friends along for the ride, that doesn't stopped us from lamenting the involvement of James. However, the presence of Gad at least gives us some hope. Maybe the high concept of this film can save it from being a typical garbage Adam Sandler movie. Thoughts?

Josh Gad is fine. He did a fine job playing The Woz after all. But Kevin James is NOT FUNNY. Sorry but Sandler needs to ditch a lot of these unfunny d-bags and get some fresh blood in here.

Should have gone with Will Ferrell, not just to costar, but to add his touch to the script. I know Ferrell himself is not fresh blood, but he'd be fresh in terms of working with Sandler.

Oh yeah is this just to cash in on the success of Wreck it Ralph. How original Adam Sandler.
