As an actress, Laura Dern seems to mostly be regarded for her dramatic work, but she has a penchant for getting goofy on the comedy side from time to time. Most of her comedy work has been on the small screen with "Enlightened" and a couple guest appearances on "Drunk History" and "Kroll Show," but now she's entering feature film comedy in a big way as THR has learned that Dern is teaming with Judd Apatow to work on a currently untitled ensemble comedy about the world of obsessive female football fans. Yes, they're out there, and it's an untapped source of great comedy, and it could make for some hilarious stuff.
Dern came up with the idea and brought it to Apatow, and now Team America: World Police and longtime "South Park" writer Pam Brady will put together a screenplay. It doesn't sound like Apatow is being lined up to direct, but he will produce the film through his Apatow Productions banner at Universal, and Dern will also get a producer credit. It's still early days on this project, so we might not hear about it for awhile, but we hope that it moves quickly, because it sounds like a great original idea that could be another Bridesmaids level success. Sound good?

No surprise coming from Apatow that this is yet another female driven comedy. Almost all of his films have super strong women in them.
