Clouds of Sils Maria

The Cannes Film Festival is drawing to a close (check out all our coverage here), and while most of the big players for the coveted Palme d'Or prize have already played, there's at least one more film yet to premiere that still has a chance. Olivier Assayas latest drama Clouds of Sils Maria is debuting in France this week, the story of an aging actress (Juliette Binoche), starring in a new production of a play that made her famous a long time ago. The younger role she played in the beginning of her career has gone to a younger actress (Chloe Grace Moretz), and she finds herself reflecting on the star she used to be. Kristen Stewart also has a prominent role as Binoche's assistant, and she seems to hold her own. Watch!

Here's the first trailer for Olivier Assayas Clouds of Sils Maria (via The Playlist):

Clouds of Sils Maria is written and directed by Olivier Assayas. At the peak of her international career, Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, now she is being asked to step into the other role, the older Helena. She departs with her assistant (Kristen Stewart) to rehearse in Sils Maria, a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (Chloƫ Grace Moretz) takes the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, but facing an unsettling reflection of herself. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and IFC Films releases it sometime this year. Interested?

Glad to see Stewart in a smaller role. She is talented. This may be something to keep an eye on.

I have never seen her anything but typecast as the angst ridden teen. I will withhold judgment until a later date.

Twilight was the best and worst thing to ever happen to her. I enjoyed her performance in Snow White. Shame she was fired from the sequel yet the director was alllowed interest in the follow up anyways.

Have to disagree...Stewart basically had the same dumb expression on her face the entire movie, with those big bunny teeth on display the entire time.

You can even see her big bunny teeth on the picture above. Close your mouth, dammit!

kitano0 on May 23, 2014

I wish if you would close yours.

I like her bunny teeth.

Well, okay. To each their own.

She has done a lot more angsty stuff post-TWILIGHT. Hopefully she can flex some muscle with this project.

Great cast and all that. But lesbian drama without boobies? Come on...

Stunning. Absolutely stunning.

A movie about actors making a film? Who'd have thunked it?

Carpola on May 22, 2014

Binoche is still so beautiful, it looks like the make-up dept. had to work hard just to make her look her age!

kitano0 on May 23, 2014

Kristen Stewart could make a movie about brushing her teeth, and I would watch it..
