The Boxtrolls

It feels like we've seen a lot of Laika's new stop-motion animated feature The Boxtrolls with a behind-the-scenes teaser trailer, a Cee-Lo Green infused trailer, and a longer trailer from the United Kingdom. But now we get a much better idea of the story that will unfold this fall. Two new trailers have just surfaced online with one for audiences here in the United States and another for those across the pond. They both explain the Jungle Book-esque story of a young boy raised by these legendary, misunderstood creatures who live below the streets of Cheesebridge, and is now coming-of-age, looking for human interaction. Watch!

Here's the new US trailer for Laika's The Boxtrolls, originally from Yahoo:

And here's the new UK trailer for the stop-motion animated film from Universal UK:

The Boxtrolls are monsters who live below the streets of Cheesebridge, who crawl out of the sewers at night to steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. Or so the townspeople have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are a community of lovable oddballs who are raising an abandoned and orphaned human boy named Eggs as one of their own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous exterminator who is bent on eradicating them, Eggs must venture aboveground and team with an adventurous young girl to save them. Graham Annable (story artist on ParaNorman) and Anthony Stacchi (co-director of Open Season) directs the film which Focus Features releases on September 26th this fall.

This looks fun, it kind of reminds me of the Roald Dahl stories I loved as a kid (actually still love them as an adult). I don't think it will be Wes Anderson-good, but the trailer is promising. Funny how so many kids movies these days seem aimed just as much at young adults on a nostalgia trip (thank Pixar for that!) Oh also really liked how they used Santigold's "GO!" in this trailer, it's been awhile since we've heard new music from her I forgot how much I liked her tunes.
