Lakeshore Entertainment Decides to Reboot 'Underworld' Franchise

Though the last film in the series just arrived in 2012, it appears Lakeshore Entertainment believes it's time to reboot the Underworld franchise. THR reports screenwriter Cory Goodman has been hired to write the script for the reboot of the horror action franchise that kicked off 11 years ago. The series has followed Kate Beckinsale as Selene, a dangerous vampire warrior, entrenched in a war between the vampire and werewolf races. Although she is aligned with the vampires, she falls in love with Michael, a werewolf who longs for the war to end. And the battle between vampires and werewolves has spanned four total films.
There's only been two sequels (Underworld: Evolution and Underworld: Awakening), while the 2009 installment Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was a prequel. It seems strange that Lakeshore is rebooting the franchise since the fourth film in the franchise was the most successful at the box office. But maybe Beckinsale is just done with the series. Goodman seems like a decent choice to reboot the series since he wrote the comic book adaptation Priest, but we're not so sure a reboot needs to happen this quickly. We could be looking at an Amazing Spider-Man situation where people just aren't interested anymore.

The Underworld films were well made but not really sure they need to be rebooted. Quite liked the world but the stories weren't the best.

Well of course they are, cause no one can come up with original ideas anymore. The Underworld trilogy is my ultimate favorite vampire/werewolf adaptation ever created. The first 3 are completely flawless, AND they are not even that old either so a reboot sounds like a complete waste of time.

Gotta agree, no one can come up with anything original now. This is way too soon to even consider a reboot seeing is how the films were good.

I thought it was stupid how Michael turned blue. WTF. I also thought it was stupid that his nails were so crappy looking and flimsy. I also thought it was stupid how some of the fight scenes were written. Either the character is strong, or he isn't. They need stop making it seem like the character is strong, but then weak, but then strong again, then weak and then finally overcomes. She should have been strong from the beginning and just kicked ass with no need for Selene to save him. She could have done that in the 2nd one when they were fighting the original werewolf and vampire. I dunno. I love the Underworld series. I love the story base that goes with it. But it pisses me off how certain details seem so cheap and poorly done. I saw after having scene a replay on TV recently.

Well of course the more you watch anything the more you begin to start nit-picking things, doesnt mean that they arent the best ever done so far. And perhaps Len Wiseman didnt want some stupid CGI-looking fights between the vamps and lycans.

actually i got a better TV , with a picture of HD quality , and everything is GREEN .( and much easier to see details ;?)) ) ..Mostly Starz but some days Syfy , have been constantly showing at least one or two of the 4 all summer long . Before or after Outlander , a lot. , seems their strategy . ., so yeah it sounds more like Kate is tired of all-black , and biting necks .., and fight choreography practice. ..

"The first three are completely flawless." // I enjoyed the first one, but the after that they became a little lackluster for me. I did enjoy some small bits, but the acting just went into the tank.

I liked the 4th film and was hoping they'd wrap up the series with the 5th film. I do hope if they do a reboot, they go back to the 1st film. It seems they went more towards the horror genre in the others.

I read somewhere that Kate turned down part 5 so that's why they are rebooting it. I personally loved Underworld Evolution. That's how you make a sequel in my opinion.

Really - we MIGHT have to send Hollywood to Rehab ReBOOT ReHab lol It's not the answer to all a genre's problems , for EVERY genre/popular character . it seems to be just a crutch now ; thus it's like a drug .. maybe there's a Financing quotient ( new stars get paid less , hopefully movie comes in under budget ? ) to this that makes Hollywood rely on it so heavily ...
