Fans of both movies and aweeom LEGO sets had a great victory last year when the Cuusoo campaigned set for the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future became a reality. Now another 80s movie with an iconic vehicle is getting the same LEGO treatment. Last summer, we called your attention to another cutom Cuusoo set inspired by the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters. As with all custom sets vying for official production approval from Cuusoo, it needed 10,000 votes to make it in front of the LEGO board, and now the set has been approved for production, just in time to celebrate the film's 30th anniversary this year. More below!
Here's the official announcement featuring all the results from the fall 2013 board review (via SlashFilm):
However, keep in mind that the photos we saw from the custom set last year may not be an entirely accurate representation of what ends up on shelves later this year. There weren't any drastic changes from the Back to the Future DeLorean set and the one created to pitch to LEGO, but we'll see what happens with the Ecto-1. We're just hoping that the set comes with all four of the Ghostbusters mini-figs (complete with proton packs) and a special one for Slimer as well. Check out the photos for the original custom set right here. We'll post images of the official set when they're available and let you know when it will hit shelves.
