Leigh Wannell Directing 'Insidious: Chapter 3' for Producer James Wan
by Ethan Anderton
May 7, 2014
After writing and taking a supporting role in both Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2, Focus Features, eONe, Sony Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have picked Leigh Wannell (right) as the director to take over Insidious: Chapter 3 from director James Wan, who said he was done with horror last summer. Whannell also co-created the Saw franchise with Wan, so his experience with horror is extensive. The filmmaker is currently coming off directing the horror comedy Cooties which premiered at Sundance earlier this year and also features his own scene stealing performance, and is preparing to begin production in July.
Originally a Film District property, the Insidious franchise is now firmly at home at Focus Features after they absorbed the aforementioned production company (the Olympus Has Fallen sequel London Has Fallen will also fall under the same deal). Wan will still produce the film, even though he's busy with salvaging the Fast & Furious franchise after Paul Walker tragically died in the middle of production. As of now, it's not clear which cast members will be returning for the third film in the series, or where the story will take us now, but it's certainly in good hands with Whannell at the helm. Sound good?

Nice to see them keeping it 'in the family' so to speak.

Yes! This should be good. I just hope Wannell does not go completely off the rails as the second one started to wobble.

I love that Leigh will be directing for the first time but damn...I really hated part 2. Such an awful piece of shit.
